Geez, you really need a new mechanic.

The opti installs like this. Nothing else to do.

Nothing to reset in the theft system, either.

 

the opti i had him install was a gm brand for a corvette. i bought it on ebay. they said it would be compatible with a 93 camaro z28. here's the link:

if neccesary i have the $ to get one from auto zone, but ill wait for a response before i do so.

 

That's no GM opti for $69. Good luck. The cheap stuff is...well...cheap. AC-Delco/Delphi is the real thing.

 

i bought the new opti spark and its working now. thank you all for your help. i really appreciate it. this is my first camaro and i want it running smoothly. i love this car but im afraid the prev. owner didn't take good care of it. now my only problem is that its throwing a code 61. the manual i have with the code reader says cruise vent solenoid circuit or degraded(contaminated) oxygen sensor. a few nights ago my carr sat and i went nowhere. last night i turned the key and it started, but shut off right after. did this afew times. i waited 3 min. and it started w/out stopping, but felt like it was struggling to stay on. i went home for lunch and it started normal. is this caused by a code 61?

 

61 = A/C system performance

That has nothing to do with engine performance. Perhaps it was not that code.
