External Fuel Pump Question
External Fuel Pump Question
Hi,
I tried posting this in the fuel section and only got lookers, no replys. I know that someone is running an external pump.......
I am installing an external fuel pump to replace the in tank unit and was wondering if I will be able to pull fuel through the stock pump, or will I have to take out the stock unit and fab some kind of a pickup?
Just for some info, this is a carbed car with a holley blue pump now, and I would rather not pull the tank, but I am afraid that I won't be able to pull through the stock pump.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Because electric fuel pumps such as the one you want to use are designed to "push" fuel rather then "pull" fuel through them, it is advisable to try to gravity feed an external electric F.P.
You can swap fuel tanks to a fuel cell that has an outlet installed in the sump of the fuel cell...a rather in-depth and expensive project. You can add a sump to your existing tank...also somewhat involved. Or you could add a "fuel fitting" to your tank which also requires some work but is the least expensive way to go. Because of the design of the tank, I know people that have been sucessful at this even though it wouldn't be installed into a sump nor would it have any baffling.

Your question has been answered in the above response, so I'll move this back to "Fuel & Ignition", where it belongs, and then delete your original post.
