Electric fans

Injuneer, thank you for your response. I put a 180 thermostat in the car last summer and it didnot change the operating temp. I figure i need to reprogram the fans. How do i go out about reprogramming them. What is your opinion.

Home | PCM for Less

You need to add a "SIGNATURE" - basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major modifications. I know what it is from previous posts, but others will have a hard time helping without this info.

Left click on "User CP" on red bar at top of screen, click on "Edit Signature" in the drop down, and enter info.

Injuneer, thank you for your reply. Reason it took me so long i've been having problems with my internet. I tried to duplicate my starting problem. I drove it around and let it idle until the temp got up to 210, shut it off and it started backup. I tried it several times and it starts every time. After talking to people they say gm has more of a problem with the crank sensor than the cam sensor. I am in florida for the winter so before i go back north i will replace the cam sensor whether i have the problem or not. I would appreciate your opinion on this if you don't mind thank you ken

Injuneer. Tes i did try what you suggested, and i am in the process of obtaining a programmer. I am going to reprogram my fans. Thank you for your respones. Ken

I have experimented with the fans. The best I could do is wire a relay that grounded the PCM to ground for full fan power. This really helped. I was in need of more cooling.


App... 97 MM6 383/ F1A. BeCool with Evans cooling, Meze pump 53gpm, High flow fans. No themostat. ByPass circuit blocked.
uns @ 160*F or less.

It's not a good idea to run with no thermostat because that allows some of the coolant to flow back into the engine instead of to the radiator. That may have been the cause of some of the overheating issues.

And I thought the advantage of Evans Coolant (NPG+) was the ability to run at much higher coolant temps, without experiencing nucleate boiling, thereby increasing overall engine thermal efficiency, without the hot spots that contribute to detonation.

Yes, NPG allows the engine to run @ lower temp if you remove the heat from the rad (convector). Running fans on high really pulls the heat from the rad/ NPG media. And, Yes, with NPG I do run without a themostat. Had to design my own due to nothing on the market. The internal bypass curcuit is blocked, so, no coolant can bypass the engine coolant curcuit except for the cylinder head beadoff. NPG really works. I run with a 7psi pressure. I have melted insulation off the fan circuit conductors.
