Car wont start....think its the fuel pump

i was driving and suddenly it seemed to have lost power and i couldnt go over 2k rpms i managed to make it down the street and i stopped at a light. there was a driveway on my left and i tried to make it in there but it lost all power and died. it still would start and crank but barely run. I was low on gas and i thought i just ran out of gas but i went to the gas station and got 2 gallons of gas and it still would start but barely run. I had to get it towed to my house and i checked the fuel pressure and it was very LOW and now it wont start at all. car has 120k on it, i dont know if this is the original fuel pump or not but im guessing it is original.

So does this sound like a fuel pump issue? or could it be something else?

also before all this happened the engine ran perfect but today when i started it up it had a hard time cranking.

What was the pressure and how long has it been since the filter was replaced?

i dont have an actual fuel pressure gauge but i pushed the valve and fuel lightly squirted out then stopped squirting and slowly came out. then finally barely any would come out.

I have no idea when the filter was last replaced

You would want to check the pressure with a gauge and change the fuel filter before doing anything.

If you pushed the core of the Schrader valve down while the engine was off, what you described sounds normal. If you did it with the engine running, you have a problem. But why drop big money on a fuel pump and go through all the labor (or cutting up the car), when for $30 you can get a fuel pressure test gauge that you can use in the future as well?

Sounds like the pump, by why guess?

i also did it with the ignition on but the engine not running and it did pretty much the same thing. seemed like a little less came out actually. maybe whatever was left in the line just came out.

Also when u turn on the ignition you cant hear the fuel pump turn on or prime up.

For sure fuel pump is not running if you cant hear it at key on.

Keep in mind pump will not run every time at key on but should run first key on in morning or after a long "key off" time.

Filters will not affect idle and normal driving but will affect WOT and you will see it somewhat gradual.

If you cant hear pump at key on then hit the key to crank just enough to crank over a little then you should hear pump run for ~2-3 seconds.

If nothing then check for votlage at the wires going to the pump at the connector under car on the drivers side directly infront of the axle going into the chassis. Test light is perfect. One should be power at key on and crank for 2-3 seconds as described above. If you get power and no pump noise then you need a new pump.

I recommend cutting your floor and removing pump that way. Install a Walbro pump.

Mine died at startup with 120K. Just wouldnt start a day after driving it ran perfect.

BTW - I changed my stock filter at 130K making 570rwhp with another stock filter and saw no difference. These are not typical results.
