car died (3 times)
car died (3 times)
First off I've never owned a camaro till today I've drove this car sevreal times the last week and decided to buy it. I was on my way home today and the thing died 3 times...put it in nuetreal pumped the gas a couple of times and it started right up. It happened twice making a sharp turn to the right on to another highway and once on a straight away... could this be a fuel pump or am I way off on that guess... also what would I be looking at in $ if this was the problem
Absolutely impossible to even start to help you without knowing what year/model/engine combination you have. They made Camaros for 36 years and there is a wide variation in them, from year to year, and even within a given model year. The more info you can provide, the more likely we can help you.
yeah i thought about that after i posted sorry... its a 95z28 6sp When a buddy of mine went with me to look at it he said it had the lt4 not the ls1 or lt1. The guy i bought it from said he didnt know anything about the car cause he had bought it from an employee who was hurting for money so he bought it and sold it to buy him a mustang. Thats really all i know about it other than the bit** is fast, loud, and fun to drive. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Sounds like it may be a problem with the idle air control (IAC) system, allowing the engine to slow down too much.
If its a real LT4, it was transplanted from a 96 Corvette. All 95 V8's are the LT1. The only 4th Gen Camaros that ever got the LT4 engine were about 100 1997 SS's.

That same thing happened to me on my 94 z28 it just got worse and worse so I took it out to my uncle who is a mechanic at chevy and it was because my mass air flow sensor was dirty, and all i did was took the screen out of infront of it and sprayed it down with brake cleaner and wiped it off with a q tip and now it runs fine
i'd say you were a special case smokinz
as mentioned too few details.
iac would do that as mentioned, did you try popping the clutch as you were coasting to restart it?
first off why do you guys think it's an lt4?
if it was me i'd keep a timing light and fuel pressure gauge with me. check your fuel pressure and see how its acting. is it solid, or fluctuating. when it stalls do you have fuel pressure.
if pressure checks out fine put the timing light on any wire and see if you have spark when its acting up.
figuring out whether its a spark or fuel problem would be my first goal, then go from there.
if it's fuel problems check the relay, wiggle the wires and/or replace the relay.
car runs fine when it runs? lots of power all the way to 5000rpms, how is the idle?

I'm not sure why you want to argue about the LT4 thing... from his second post, it appeared that he didn't know a whole lot about the engine in a 95 F-Body, so I offered some incidental info that I hoped would clarify his confusion. Its not really germane to the problems he's having, so why make an issue out of it?
Clean the idle air control sensor and the mass air flow sensor.
Check out the air filter, plug wires, and look for any loose / crusty wires.
Also clean both battery terminals and both cable ends.
After that, then I'd go with the fuel pressure check.

well got it fixed...so it seems for now...i work with the guy i bought it from and we changed out the fuel filter just because it was cheap & easy then we changed out the mass air sensor....runs like a champ... Thanks guys
