95 Z28 Fuel Pump Issues

When I start my 95 Z28 Camaro, the motor turns but the fuel pump isn't kicking on and it won't start. But after a few to several tries of starting it, the fuel pump kicks on and it starts and runs great and starts every time for the remainder of the day. But the next morning, it won't start again and the fuel pump is not coming on and have to do the same thing over again and its good for the day, what is causing this? Please Help!

Is the "SECURITY" light on when the pump does not come on? But the starter engages and cranks the engine?

Re: 95 Z28 Fuel Pump Issues

When you turn the key to "run" (not "start") the fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds to pressurize the system, then turn off. It will not turn on again until the PCM sees the cam position signals from the optical sensor in the Optispark distributor.

You need to listen carefully for the pump to "prime", and measure the fuel pressure when it shuts off. Should reach at least 40psi, and hold that pressure for a while. If the pressure drops rapidly after the pump primes, it will cause an extended cranking to start the engine.

Another way to check for this problem is to cycle the key back and forth several times between "run" and "off", before turning the key to "start". If the engine starts quicker, you have found the problem.
