I have a 6spd 95 camaro lt1, and when it warms up to a certain temp it'll just die on me. I can be going down the highway or parked in the shop and it'll just die and i cant get it started again for well on average 10 minutes. I've replaced the ignition control module (twice) the temp sensor, coil, rad, and fuel filter. any ideas what it could be? This just started in early july, and i've had the car since January.

 

Could be heat soak on the optical module in the Optispark.

But.... have you ever scanned it?

 

yeah its not throwing any codes and the check engine light isnt coming on

 

When it won't start, check the basics-spark and fuel.

 

fuel is right up there, and when it died it was too hot to take a plug wire off (didnt think of it before hand) and when it cooled, and we took a wire off the damn thing wouldnt quit when only firing on seven.

 

Wouldn't he have to scan it while the no start condition existed so that he could get the correct trouble code??

When a trouble code sets, it stays stored in the PCM until you have driven the car for a substantial number of "drive cycles" without the problem recurring (or you have removed the power from the PCM, which is generally a mistake when trying to sort out a problem). The SES light does not have to be on, and the code does not have to be "active". Its stored, and can be recalled with a scanner.

Might sound like a stupid question but "on" the optical module? Would heat soak be a condition that would go away once the car sat and cooled off? Or is it a code that would be stored on the cpu?? Still trying to grasp it all as well.

Yes... heat soak is a condition wherein (hope I used the correct word) the electronic component fails when it heats up, and returns to its operable condition when it cools down.

There is a code for loss of the high resolution pulse pattern from the optical module, and another code for loss of the low resolution pulse pattern from the optical module. If the "heat soak" is causing the optical module electronics to break down and not produce one or both of those signals, it will set codes. Those codes would be stored in the PCM.
