95 Camaro 3500 rpm when idle

When I started my 95 Camaro today I heard a pop and then the car started revving fast. It says 3500 rpm on the meter when I'm not stepping on the accelerator pedal. I tried shifting to reverse, drive and neutral and found I can move the car back and forth in my driveway and the brake can stop the car. Is it safe to drive to a gas station a couple miles away or should I have it towed?

Yes, it is strange RPMs for our cars. What RPMs are on your dash when you select D or OD and release your brake pedal? Are they going down and car starts to run?

I think y can check your air throttle, if it is stuck in semi open position and doesn't close it may cause so high RPMs. Also you can check all the throttle body, and clean it well, and do not forget about IAC valve (in my 95 z28 when I unplug harness from this valve RPMs instantly rise to 2000, so check your harness too, it goes to PCM, if my memory serves me well).

Why you need to drive to the gas station? If your fuel is at zero, you may go to gas station with jerrycan and get some gas for your experiments. But if you want use your car, try to eliminate your high RPMs problem first.

In most parts of the US of A AFAIK, gas stations have mechanics working there.

I seem to have found the problem.

You caught me! I'm from Ukraine, here at gas stations only the oil change pits are and not at every station.

So I can see that you don't need to go to mechanic, but you need to replace that cracked part, cause the sticky tape is not for a long period, it it too hot there between engine heads.

My sister thought this car was turquoise, but I think the color is teal.

Does anyone have any recommendations for installing projector fog lights on this car? I'm thinking of trying these lights to hopefully improve night vision.

I just looked at my Camaro and I think it might have fog lights already. There's a switch next to the headlight switch that turns them on and off. The right one is burned out so I'll have to replace that one. I wonder if I can get a higher power version.

Here's a 95 Camaro web page.
Roy's "Camelion"

I found some LED and xenon bulbs that appear to work with 95 Camaro fog lights on Ebay.

The tree in my front yard had been growing for a while. I was able to cut some branches using a pole saw, but the 30-40 ft high branches are hard to get to. I had a tree company cut the tree back recently. Now the wires and driveway should be safe.

Good to see you’ve returned after almost 9 years 🙂 . A lot of changes here…. hardly anyone left. Maybe a half-dozen LT1 owners and a lone LS1 owner.

Sad, but true.

Well done Young Lady. Nice to see the young generation doing some hands-on repairs. Keep up the good work....

9 years. That's longer than I thought. The Camaro is till running pretty good. I don't drive that much. Twice a year I drive from College Park to Bowie, Md. to see my brother and sister, but most of the time I usually drive it once a week a couple miles or turn it on for about 10 minutes to make sure the battery is charged. I've been using a bike a lot.
