It's Hylomar FYI - good stuff comes in a tube or spray and needs a special solvent just to remove it. Some deisel places carry it - good for MLS head gaskets on boosted engines, too. The spray seems similar to Coppercoat, but it's blue.

"Freebie block"? Man... that's great! Me, I'm the guy always giving the break. Seldom getting one
Is the block a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main? Has it been overbored or decked before?

Virgin 93 block 2 bolt - He had never pulled an lt1 before - helped him pull it and got most of his longblock put together.

I'll go with the caps you showed me and my options are open on pistons now. Shot - might try to hone it and run stock bore, but bet it needs more clean up than that.

High 5! That's what my current block started with. Virgin '93 2 bolt.
I went with the Diamond blower/turbo pistons(ring pack moved down from the crown a bit) and used a forged 5.7" H-beam rod instead of reusing my old forged 6.0" H-Beam rods.
Making progress ! I'm glad to hear it.

26cc dish if I recall correctly. Many of the vendors are listing these wrong. Call Mahle - get their official part number - shop it.

I think cnc-motorsports had one of the better prices last I checked. The website has the right part number wrong description I think. I was going to call whoever I buy from and make them verify and guarantee the part number from Mahle.

Wife starts back full time tomorrow at her previous pay. She has only been unemployed about 2 months, but was working 32 hours for the past year. I have been very cautious with expenses. I don't think I am going to order everything tonight, but Santa might get some pistons on the way soon.

Part of me wants to scrap it and go vette - But either way its worth more running than in parts so lets at least see what happens this time around.

problem is you'll put it back together and start loving it all over again, and you won't want to part with it,.....until the day it gives you grief again. I just accept the fact that **** breaks when yer playing with stuff over 6-700hp if it aint put together perfectly with the right combination of parts, especially when yer talking about FI. Imagine if you had to pay someone else to do all the labor,.....everytime something gave you issues. I know I couldnt afford it if I had to pay someone else to work on the car.

Slow progress - Maybe I can start my 16th build thread soon.

The 83mm is still waiting in the garage.
SBC550030I26 Mahle pistons will my my pick.
230/236 on a 114 cam - not perfect but the price was right. Much better than my 218/224 on a 112.
Grabbed a set of eagle billet caps for next to nothing from another board member.
Working on a deal for heads now.

Must decide on intake. I can port my stocker even more - pursue a single plane setup - or build my own. Part of me wants to build a sheetmetal intake and put a big ls throttle body on it. Shouldn't be that hard but I have said that before.

Others to do - build my k member and a arms - I have ls1 front brakes to put on - knock sense for my MS - Ugg

Slow but steady... Mine took over 3 years to materialize but I got there and was happy with the result.

Sounds like you have quite a bit to contemplate. I've often wondered about the sheet metal intake. I'd love to get one of those 'Wilson' intakes and build my own off that model, tweaking the design for a street/strip result. I also thought about a composite style, ala stock LSx, so I could get away from the heat soak our metal intakes endure. But, like so much on our cars, it is really time that is harder to come by than money.

I'm waiting for the snow to get off the ground before I finish putting mine back together. What started out as a tranny swap(pulled my T56 off to put on a built TH350) evolved into also;
  • Swap out Melling HV to standard volume Oil Pump
  • Replacement of Pan gasket. I ruined the seal in front when I checked the Cam Timing, trying to hunt down why it ran like crap on first startup a year and a half ago. (Turned out to be ignition related)
  • Replacement of the bronze cam gear. These things only last about a year on a street driven car. Especially if you use a HV oil pump.
  • Replace my ported stock LT1 castings with Canfield Heads and in so doing, replace the head gaskets. My turbo motor had been pushing water under extended boost at 10psi and above. The thicker decks of the Canfields will, I hope, help defeat that.

Best of luck to us all in getting our cars ready for the new driving season! I'm hoping to have mine up and running by this time next month.
