Water Injection and Nitromethane

I have experimenting lately with nitromethane running through my DIY water/alky injection kit with some success but have been running into problems. Using about a 20% nitro mixture, used in remote control cars, power is definitely up. However, since I am feeding the pump from the windshield washer resovoir and nitro methane would undoubtedly ruin all the seals on both the windshield washer motor and my water injection pump, I decided to put a small tank with the nitro after the pump so that water would pump through the tank with nitromethane in it and push the nitro through and into the motor. Now, the nitro methane has began to eat away at the either the chrome or actually the aluminum in the tank as I used a power steering overflow tank since it was the only thing I could find that meet my space needs. Are any of you aware of what materials, ie stainless steel or some type of plastic, that arent decomposed by nitromethane and any companies that make pressurized tanks that only hold about 2-5 cups of fluid? Also if you could point me in the direction of companies that make fittings that also arent affect by nitromethane as it seems to have an slight adverse affect on the brass fittings I'm using. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I don't know of anything, but just out of curiosity, if it's eating away at your tank and brass fittings, isn't that eventually going to destroy your intake manifold/valves etc?

You should investigate nitropropane as an alternative.

Yeah, I would recommend that too. I've worked with Nitro quite a bit (but I'm no chemist! lol), and I would be VERY leery of running it in a street car-or any car that wasn't specifically built for it.

I agree with Rich. Shoot for NitroPropane. As with either of these, be careful and take baby steps. Nitro Propane will dice an engine quickely if mixed directly with gas. It's ugly.

I never cease to be amazed at the wide variety of fairly energetic explosive chemicals that are part of our hobby.

If I ever need to blow something up in a hurry, I'll know where to find supplies!

Why go exotic? Some nitromethane, some Aniline...
