water injection kit?
water injection kit?
Is this one a good purchase? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/100-P...36179089QQrdZ1
I will be using windshield washer reservoir for it on my turbo setup (20 psi on 1.8 intercooler engine).
Also what’s the best/cheap mix that I can purchase to fill it up. I need something that I can get anywhere. I read that you can use regular windshield washer fluid for it? Is that true??
Thanks

Re: water injection kit?
You should squirt 50/50 methanol & distilled water. Meth is 3$/gal or cheaper. If you dilute it 50/50 with a $.70 gal of distilled h20 then it costs $1.85/gal max which is not twice the cost of the very cheapest ww fluid. If you go with ww fluid, it might have a high methanol content or not - it varies. And a gallon lasts a while, so this is not the time to cheap out. Use the right stuff and forget about it.
Re: water injection kit?
Tap water works fine.
Do yourself a favor and get a high quality kit. Keep in mind that if it fails under boost, there can be engine damage pretty quickly. If water is inadvertantly injected with the motor off, it can hydro lock, which usually means you have just entered the "rebuild zone".
Since my friend Bob Kennedy makes a kit, I am familiar with what has to go into one to make it decent. A good pump itself, even when bought in bulk, is close to $100. It must be reliable and capable of generating ~100psi at the operating volume to adequately atomize the injection fluid. So, if some one is selling a kit for $190.00, how good do you think the components are? Using high quality "weather pack" connectors as another example, these thing sell for $4-7 a piece. If you want an OEM quality conection, that's what the pump harness should use. And so on. The parts alone for a quality kit cost more than $190.00, so I would stay away from it.

Re: water injection kit?
Look into SMC Enterprises or www.alkycontrol.com both of these are top notch systems with great customer support. I run the SMC kit on my 85 GN.
