water cooled turbos

i just bought a turbo, its is a water cooled model instead of typical oil cooled, my question is, where is my water source? exactly what do i have to do to pump water into it and where is it gonig to drainback into? is it possible to run an independent water cooling system with some sort of resovoir and some sort of pump and just keep water flowing through it?

Hook it up to the cars cooling system. I'd reccommend the oil cooler lines or heater.

what about just using the coolant where it comes into the throttle body, instead of just doing the standard throttle body by-pass. extend the hoses and run them into and out of the turbo

Well, first thing!! I don't believe there is a turbo that doesn't have oil feed lines and return lines. The oil that runs to the turbo is not meant to keep it cool, it's meant to keep it lubricated. Just like the pistons, metal don't go against metal for that long and water sure as hell isn't thick enough to prevent it.

With that said, you can water cool pretty much any turbocharger I believe. Your notice around the housing, it will have an allen stud on both sides and top and bottom. If you hold the turbo upright, how it should be mounted, your see the bottom is oil return line. Top is Oil feed. That means the other 2 or more just be for something else. I made a "T" in my coolant system hose so it will feed into and did another on the other side where it will exit.

One more thing. Is water cooling even worth it? It honestly doesn't add more than half a horsepower and once the car gets hot, it is not going to add anything. The reason people water cool is too extend the life of the turbocharger. However, with modern technology we have come up with turbo timers. They keep your car running for a certain amount of time after you take the key out. Keeping your car running for that extra 2 minutes does the exact same thing as the water would do. If you have both...kick ***!! All turbo timers do is allow the turbo to cool down because they do get DAMN hot!!!
