Used supercharger...things to look out for when buying one.

I have 93 LT1 six speed with some work.
Looking to get a used supercharger. Can anyone tell me what I should look out for when buying one. Thanks.

If it is a Vortech or the like, go to their website, or call them and get a complete list of parts that should be included with the kit.

Then when you go to look at the unit, make sure that the pulley spins without too much restriction (except on the rare ball bearing blowers, which you should stay away from anyway), make sure it doesnt make too much noise (hearing one that works properly will help you decide what sounds "right"). It is best to trust the seller, and if the seller acts shady at all, back out of the deal. Other things to look for, anything homemade, any missing parts (which can be very hard to find). Make sure it comes with the fuel pump (or else more $$$).

Thats all I can think of now, but research about the kit, and make sure you make an informed decision.

Ditto on everything BlackLT1_TX said. Also, if you can get your hands on it and check it out yourself, look at the compressor blades to make sure they aren't bent/broken or contacting the housing very much. They might show some scuff marks from the wheel expanding a little and brushing the housing, but a little bit won't hurt it. And be sure to try and move the pulley and shaft around to see if they are loose or moving around.. if they do then it will need new bearings. Not sure how much it will cost to refurbish it, but it may be cheaper to try and find another one in better condition. HTHs

Most people aren't going to go through the trouble to remove the Trex fuel pump, so you're probably going to be stuck buying a new one. Make sure you get all the brackets (check the bolt holes, they may be stripped), pulleys, tubing. Check the oil feed line for cracks since it runs close to the exhaust. Check the shaft for excessive end play. Also, make sure you get the FMU and if possible, get the BTM/retard box (they are expensive). Oh, almost forgot, your 93 will need bigger injectors, the only kit that comes with them are the ones specifically for a 93. Good luck.
