i dont have one so i cant really say but seems by the time you get everything if buying new you might be spending bout the same as just buying a kit. another thing you could do is look at some kits n see what all they come with and go from there i guess

How much of the work can you do yourself? That will depend on what you can really buy or not.

I'm having someone build the shortblock other than that I'll be installing everything. By the way i'm wanting to just go with a rear mount turbo.

Thanks for the kit idea but there just not all the same and most don't specify the little things.

I meant can you fabricate/weld or will someone else be doing that. If you have a spare catback you can get the dimensions from that and substitute a turbo for the muffler. After that you will need a wastegate, blow off valve, oil scavenging pump and lines and various assorted pipe bends, couplers and clamps. Plus assorted fittings and whatnot.

Nope can't weld. I was planning on getting everything then thking it to a muffler shop and having them bend all the piping. I don't know if the cold piping needs to be coated or not so after he makes all the bends I'll have them coated if needed then take it back for welding.

You generally weld and then coat. Doing it the other way destroys the coating.

What's the best thing to do just have him set it up to clamp everything down, coat then put it back together?

You'll have to weld the hot side. You may want to look at using a vband clamp on the turbo pipe as well as your catback so you can reinstall it and have all the hot side stuff coated. It'll probably take a good 2 weeks to get everything coated.

Not really sure how much of a PITA the cold side will be but you will probably want to have it coated if you use a mild steel as well a bead rolled to keep the pipes from blowing out of the couplers. If you use aluminum then the coating isn't as big of a deal but will help to keep it looking nice.

Why would I coat the catback that would keep the heat in? And I want a rear mount because I want the room up front it makes life better. I had shorties and it seams that most front mount turbos are almost like shorties and I hated everything about them. They are harder to work around.

With a rear mount system you want to coat or wrap as much of it as you can to retain exhaust heat to drive the turbo. And I was talking about having the flanges and pipes for the turbo coated, not the cat back. I'm saying have a vband flange welded to the turbo pipe and the cat back pipe where they meat the pipe that goes over the axle so you could swap between them if you had to in case something broke so you're not driving around without a muffler.

Talk to Jon aka RealQuick. He can build you a front mount kit that keeps all the accessories and maintains good plug access. The only rear mount kit out there is Squires (STS).
