Turbo i recently got

I just pruchased a basicly brand new turbo off of a cummings desiel dodge motor the trucks a 2004, bought brand new then wrecked after like 20 miles, guy took turbo off and set aside, and i picked it up, has anyone done a custom turbo setup with one of these turbos. If so, can you send me a list of all the parts i would need to finish this turbo off, any suggestions and anything else that would help me out thx again

Re: Turbo i recently got

The forum looks to be dead.

I helped a guy put together a setup using a Ford powerstroke turbo. He needed to make a few flanges for the oil supply and drain, and the other parts he needed was just tubing and a welder. He used a set of shorty headers and just fabbed piping to the turbo. I made the intercooler for him, and he peiced together the cold side piping and I just welded it for him. Turned out real well, but he has yet to fire it up. You will probably need a wastegate as well, we disabled the internal wastegate and added a tial 38mm one.

The built in wastegate will be fine, It's probably set for around 5 psi or so. Some people will disable the internal wastegate and use an aftermarket wastegate but only if the are going to run more boost.

Re: Turbo i recently got

If the turbo came off a turbo Cummins motor, it's a Holset HY(or HX)35 series turbo. They work really well with 2.3L Fords(I know i traded a 2.3L turbo Mustang with a holset for my T/A) and STOCK 5.0's. The wastegate has either an 18 or 23 psi spring. I forget which it is.

Re: Turbo i recently got

First swap cams, then buy a turbo that is properly sized. Anywhere from a 70mm to 76mm depending on what power you are wanting to achieve.
