Turbo in...:)

Well About time I am finally dreaming about doing a turbo swap and I am underway!

And well LS1 calipers too!

I just got it in the mail and need to polish/paint it.

Its a Garret/AiResearch TH08A64
T6 Flange
5.125 Downpipe
.96A/R Hot Side
74mm turbine

So far I have..
Turbo
Intercooler
Boost Gauge
some random piping
Feed/Drain lines

Jay

Nice. Any reason you chose that turbo?

what are you doing for the hot side? Making a log setup like mine should be real easy it only took me about two weekends to get everything mocked up. The long part for me was welding and smoothing. (im going for the smooth, all one piece look)

I chose it because I got a really nice deal on it and im on a budgit, bought too many toys this year(the 383 and a 2000 gsxr 750)

Also bc it can be upgraded to a 88mm wheel.

Also I plan on building headers, not sur eon 1 5/8 or 1 3/4.
I am copying the Ohio Forced Induction LS1 Kit kinda.

Jay,

1 5/8 will probably be more than adequate for a small block V8 turbo. When I asked Jose, his response was that many 1 5/8 setups are making well north of 700-800+ to the tire.

Estimated change in kinetic energy based on change in diameter from 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 is about 45% reduction. This might indicate that spool time would increase with the larger primary to some degree. But I think overall this is not a huge factor on a V8 and the larger primary will support more power if you need it to. Try to keep as much heat in the exhaust portion driving the turbine as you can either way. Coated or heat wrapped, distance to turbo and so on.

EDIT: Cool car. Reminds me of a cartoon I watched as a kid - MASK - where a red third gen could fly.

ya, the reading ive done lead me down the 1 5/8" path. I wanted the quickest spool and my goal was 700 so there shouldnt any problem getting that with 1-5/8". look at the guys make 1000+ with cast log manifolds.... 1-3/4 would be overkill and hurt your spool time. Its a balancing act between bakc pressure and velocity.....
