Tuning question?
Tuning question?
Is it true that with a supercharger you are never really "all set", and always need to tweak or tune your car? Or is this more of a rumor, and once finally tuned you can run the car from there on out without constant tuning or "tweaking"?
Re: Tuning question?
Tuning should be stable as long as you run that formula (don't further modify the car). My tuner likes to tune the car with 91 - 92 octane to be on the conservative side. Other reasons to tune on the conservative side is big changes in air temp...so if you car was tuned on a hot day, cold weather driving is going to raise the boost level.
Re: Tuning question?
Interesting. I am really new to the whole forced induction theme, and like a young jedi padowan, I have much to learn. I wasn't aware of the boost increasing like that.
I am looking at some 9.5-1 or 9-1 pistons for my set up, and would like to run around 12 psi of boost with the D1-SC from ATI. Would you say that it would be best tuned on either 89 or 91 octane? This is just my lack of knowledge on the subject. I thought you would still want to have it tuned, and ran with premium (93 octane).

Re: Tuning question?
Here in California premium gas is 91 octane. So if 93 is your premium, certainly get it tuned for that.
You definitely want an intercooler with 12 lbs of boost; I believe the Procharger kits have an option of 2 or 3 core coolers; get the 3 core as 12 lbs of boost will generate a lot of heat (compressing air heats up the air).

Re: Tuning question?
Thanks again for the tip. Yeah, 93 is availible out on the East coast(where is am stationed), and then also availible where I am from(Indiana), so I'll plan on the tune with 93.
I am getting the largest intercooler that ATI offers for an LT1. The intercooler ATI offers for the LS1 motors is actually larger. For a while I had made some plans to fabricate the LS1 style intercooler to work into my car. However after talking with a friend of mine who works for ATI, he recommended I just stay with the LT1 package as a whole, and that it would take care of my set up just fine.
