Supercharger noob.

I've been looking into getting a supercharger, probably used, to add a little more hp and to hold me over until I rebuild my engine.

I don't know what kind to get, but I would like it to be upgradeable if possible, so I can use it on my new engine.

Is there anything that will just bolt onto a stock LT1 without getting too much into internal engine mods, and that can still be upgraded and used on a H/C 383?

I will have about 2-3K to spend, but less would be better if possible.

Let me know what I should look into.

this is going to sound like a noob question but what do you mean by a "H/C 383"? Are you saying a High compression 383? if so at that point boost would not be your biggest friend. not unless you are going to run nothing but race gas.

Procharger P1/P1SC: 1,200cfm, ~650rwhp
Procharger D1/D1SC: 1,400cfm ~750rwhp
Vortech S-trim: 1,000cfm ~600rwhp
Vortech T-trim: 1,200cfm, ~650rwhp

Any of them will produce enough boost to blow up a stock shortblock. The hp numbers are for typical good heads/cam setups with the blower maxed out. These hp levels need intercooling and/or water injection and a low compression shortblock built for high boost for any kind of reliability.

Better flowing Heads and a more aggressive or a supercharger specific Cam.

So can a Procharger D1/D1SC be detuned for a stock block, so that it will last a little longer? Maybe around 6-8 psi? Can you swap out a pulley to achieve this, or is this just too much supercharger for a stock block. I'm not looking for 500hp on the stock block, anything over 350hp will be fine until I rebuild.

You should be able to "pulley down" a D1SC for a stock engine. However, I think most people here would agree that putting a s/c on a stock engine will likely lead to the need to rebuild your engine sooner rather than later.

For me, stock short block, stock cam, ported heads and 52mm TB with 6 lbs of boost I dynoed 435 RWHP, 440 RWTQ.

I know I will need a rebuild, and I plan on it, maybe in a year or too. So I figure if I don't beat on it too much, I can make it last until the rebuild.
