STS Rear Turbo Questions

I was wondering what issues if any you guys had with the rear mounted turbos. What about water in the intake or splashing on the turbo? What's the pros and cons and overall general opinion of the kits? I am asking because they are in the process of completing the design of a C4 kit.

Thanks

There are mixed reviews about the STS kit from everyone. Unless you completely submerge the turbo under water splashing on it is not an issue/something to worry about.

There is the potential for the air filter to pull in some water if it is in heavy rains but they make splash shields and pre-filter socks to try and prevent this issue.
Another pro is having the turbo out of the engine bay so you don't have another heat source up front.

You can listen to all the ups and downs of the rear mount idea but it's ultimately up to what you want to do and what your future plans are.
Good Luck

what would do you the most good is to do search on here and over on LS1tech, maybe one LS1LT1.com etc and put aside three or four days worth of free time to read. There are more thoughts and opinions on this setup than you will know what to do with. Enough info though that you will be able to make your own well educated decision.

there is not aftermarket part ever made that ONLY good things have been said about it. with that said yes the sts has some problems but its still a good kit IMHO. I have the kit and on a stock motor with just headers and a tune was just shy of 400 RWHP. as far as the turbo being in the back it spools pretty quick. I did once have a issue on the highway going back home where i hit ALOT of rain and sucked up some water. It didnt hurt anything just got a lil water in the pipe and it messed with my MAF a lil. just dont want to drive in excessive water. besides that i havent had any issues with the kit really. i actually got way better gas milage with the turbo on. some people claim that the turbo sits too low and could hit stuff but mine is pretty high up there and im not worrie one bit about it catching something b/c if it does i have bigger problems that just the turbo. if you go to the link in my sig there are some pics of the day i got the kit on the car and the turbo hangs down a lil low only b/c i had to drive it to my ole mans house to get the pipes welded together. thats just some stuff with the kit if you have any hardcore questions just send me a PM and il try my hardest to help you out.

Hey firechicken, you're doing 13.6 seconds with the sts turbo, headers and a tune?
