stock or ported intake manifold(LT1)

I am building a LT1 383 FI motor. Which manifold should I use? I thought I read on here the stock intake is good for 1000hp. Is there really a difference on a ported intake and especially with forced induction? I run a 52mm TB so the 58mm openings isn't an issue. The runners just look alittle bigger, nothing crazy.Just wondering everyones thoughts. Thanks.....John

Re: stock or ported intake manifold(LT1)

it needs to match the intake ports on the head... no bigger, no smaller.

A lot of people gasket-match the heads and intake for this reason. It's easier to make them match up perfectly.

If you go that route, I have a nice LT4 intake that is machined for LT1 heads. It's already been ported and gasket matched.

Just thought I would throw that in.

I know people gasket match them but is there any advantage? I thought the stock manifold was as good as it gets in stock form. Does any body have any proof (dyno numbers) on stock vs. ported intake. Thanks....john

Are you saying you have an LT4 intake for sale? If so I have a buddy that would be interested. Let me know.

THat buddy would be me, but unfortunately it's no good to me if it's been milled down for LT1 heads. Thanks for watching out though, I appreciate that.

Yeah, it's been milled down for use on LT1 heads.

What was the point of that? Why disfigure the manifold to the point of removing the material that differentiates it from the LT1? Wouldn't it have been less expensive to just buy a used LT1 intake?

I bought it like that. I have LT4 heads, but was not told the intake had been milled down. It would be a good choice for someone looking to port their LT1 intake, but also likes the looks of the LT4 intake.

I was initially responding to you in case you wanted to go that route, I had a simple solution. If somebody directs a question to me, I am going to answer.

Thanks for being an @ss.
