Short block assembly or stroker..

I am looking up at either stroker kits for the LT1 or a short block assembly. I have found stroker kits to be around 1800 dollars roughly. They include for a 383 forged rods, pistons, crank, race bearings, all needed rings. Well complete stroker kits. I have found a short block assembly on lt1f-body.racenet website. The 409 assembly has forged pistons, rods, crank, bearings, rings, oil pump, bored, honed, torque plated, choice of cam. And that is 5200 dollars I believe. I was wondering on these prices and would this be the best way to go strengthen the bottom end. Or should I look into getting the things done locally? If you have some other suggestions on to where I can look at stroker kits or short block assemblys I would greatly appreciate it. Everyone is telling me that these prices are really expensive, but it seems about right since all the websites I have found are about the same. I want to supercharge my vehicle, and I want to do it right.
