Safe for a few passes?
Safe for a few passes?
This is my setup, and i want to get a few baseline 1/4 mile passes prior to taking the car for a dyno tune. I would like to know if you guys think that this is safe to do with the stock tune and stock injectors?
Engine: 355 Chevy LT1 (Balanced & Blueprinted)
Transmission / Rear : 6-speed Manual w/4:10's in stock rear
Power adder:
Vortech s trim @ 7lbs
T-Rex inline booster pump
Vortech Fmu
Engine specs:
JE/SRP flat top pistons (Forged)
Crower Sportsman 5.7" connecting rods (Forged)
Comp Cams 07-305-8 camshaft (220/230/510/510/114)
Crane OE Hydraulic Roller Lifters
Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 ratio roller rockers (=544 lift)
Comp Cams valve springs
Mild head work (bowl porting & competition 5-angle valve job)
BBK 58mm Throttle Body
BBK 1 5/8" Shorty headers
Crane Hi6-R ignition w/TRC-2 timing retard controller
ngk Tr-6 gapped @ .042
Any words of wisdom would be great.
Thanks

Since your pistons are forged you're probably safe (still could blow a head gasket if it's pinging). But what's the point of baseline 1/4 miles times without a proper tune? I can understand before and after times pre blower/post blower. You can get baseline HP/TQ numbers safely on the dyno if you have it tuned with a wideband O2 sensor.
Yep agree with everyone else. Do not run the motor until you map out your fuel and spark. No sense in blowing it up.
Not to get off topic but why'd you run a flat top piston with stock heads and a supercharger?

I appreciate the replies , and the honesty. That is why i asked the guys on this site. I will hold off until i can get the car on the dyno. I will be ditching the fmu and going with larger injectors . ( will 42's be sufficient?).
(tryintogofast) Ref the flat tops, I didnt plan on running a supercharger but found this kit very cheap. Compression is 9.8 with the stock heads but i am going to get a set of AFR's to bring that down .
Thanks again for keeping me off that bridge, i am just itching to go.
any other helpful tips for the dyno tune?
