Rebuild question

Well, the time has come. I'm getting some plans together for the rebuild. Will the stock crank and rods handle 500rwhp?

The rods will probably hold up if you use good bolts, but I personally wouldn't chance it on the crank.

the rods will fail before the crank. There have been people who have taken the stock rods and crank to 500 rwhp. Or real close too it. But I would not do it. I would be afriad to beat on it because I think they won't hold up too long. I would buy some eagle I or H beams and a new cast crank if I was shooting for 500rwhp. Maybe get the stock crank checked out if you really want to use it. But I would definately shell out the 300 for the I beams. It not something to lose sleep over.

I agree you can use the stock rods at that power but I also would swap out the the bolts for some arp's while you have the motor out. Although I have sen alot of peope make 500rw+ with the stock cranks and rods+bolts so I guess it all depends on the luck of the draw. But to be safe I would change out the bolts.

I would go 500 rwhp with the stock crank all day. The rods would be way out of the question. Hell Jason Warren is running mid 9's with the stock crank still.

My 355 has been around now for 2 years on the stock crank and rods w/ ARP bolts pushing 540+ to the tires, and I'm using it again this spring until I finish my 383.

I see about 50/50 here so far. Keep the advice coming.

Would Eagle SIR rods be better than stock? I'm slowly getting parts together for my own rebuild.

I have a 350 one-piece rear seal, forged 1053 steel GM crank that's offset ground to a 3.50" stroke that I'm trying to get rid of.

$250 if you're interested.

The mild offset grind only pushes the piston up 0.010" in the bore, so unless your block is "zero decked", it won't cause a problem.
