PTK LT1 Turbo Kit Questions

I have been trying to get some information concerning PTK's LT1 F-Body Kits, but I have not had too much luck. So I thought I would ask the questions here.

1. What is included in the following 3 Stages of the Kits: The Hot Part Super Saver Kit, the System w/o Intercooler and the System with Air to Water Intercooler?

2. What size are the primaries on the headers?

3. What size is the crossover?

4. What turbo flange does it come with? (Can I use a T88 or equivalent?)

5. What size is the downpipe?

6. How much HP will the standard A2W Intercooler Support?

7. What is the standard Wastegate Size?

8. What is the standared BOV?

9. How many gallons does the coolant tank hold?

10. Will it clear a Canton Oil Pan?

11. Is there such a thing as an LT1 Outlaw Kit vs. the Street Kit?

12. Delivery time from placement of order?

And finally....why the price premium over the Ford Kits? The Ford Kits seem more reasonably priced and come with more parts as far as I can tell. The complete Ford Kits also also come with coating as standard and not an option...is that the same on the GM Kits? Just looking at the uncoated Hot Parts which are very similar to the GM kits in construction and number of pieces....yet $400 cheaper? I understand paying a premium for C5, 03, and Viper kits.....but LT1s are as bottom basement as 5.0s.

I am looking to place my order very soon due to worries about long lead times, etc.....but I am just trying to decide if it is worth waiting for another company like HP Performance to bring their kits out.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: PTK LT1 Turbo Kit Questions

1. Hot Parts is just that. Engine to turbo, crossover and downpipe. These are the parts that are hardest to make for the average person. I bought just those and am fabbing the rest myself. I think the rest are self explanitory - more parts besides the intercooler or with the intercooler.

2. Primaries on the gen 1 (my kit) I believe are 1.75"

3. Crossover on mine (gen 1) I believe is 2.25" with the flex section.

4. Uses a standard T4 flange, should fit pretty much anything you want aside from a large frame turbo.

5. Downpipe on my kit was 3". After 18" I have a cutout.

6. The A2W will hold over 800hp. I'm building my own and it'll hold 800hp, and mine is smaller and less efficient.

7. Wastegate is a 38mm Tial unit

8. BOV is a 50mm Tial unit

9. Dont know

10. It clears mine. I also have a Tubular K-member and the gen 1 kit. The flex section is the culprit. Looks like the gen2 doesnt have that problem.

11. The Outlaw kit is a custom thing.

12. My lead time from order to my door was 4 weeks.

13. Price difference is partly because of competition - there are a million ford kits out there. Partly because of materials, the Ford's are honestly easier to work with in their engine bay. Less fuss to get things to fit. Also not as many turbo lt1's exist as mustangs. They make a lot of mustang kits, thus distributing costs. If they sold 50 lt1 kits, I bet the price would drop.

I went the hot parts route and bought/fabbed the rest of the kit myself as I dont have access to equipment or time to weld the headers together.

Also seeing as this is a good place to ask....
What exactly do you get do you get in the "Lt1 kit, no intecooler" VS the "hot parts" kit? (IE what else am I getting for the $1500?)

The hot parts are the exhaust side of the kit as Geoff mentioned. As for the "Kit with no intercooler," I would imagine it's just that, no intercooler. So it's probably just a pipe going from the turbo directly to the throttlebody with a BOV attached.

GEOFF,
Since you did most of the fabbing yourself on the turbo kit, how much would you say that you saved overall? Was it a really big hassle?
I am an good mechanic wiht acces to a decent welder and can buy pre-bent pipes. Do you think that an average joe like myself could acomplish something like this over the course of a few weekends?
Thanks for your input.

So you get the BOV, a wastegate? and a pipe to the throttle body? for $1500???
I talked with a local shop here and they said the wastegate is the same as what comes on a DSM (or simular import) and that they could be had for ~$50..
So what am I missing here???? Its not adding up.
Sorry if I am thick headed....

Re: PTK LT1 Turbo Kit Questions

Okay, the kit with no intercooler has no intercooler. It has all the hot parts though.

The DSM Blow-off-Valve will kinda work. It cant flow that much, but it will work for $50... kinda. IMHO the tial 50mm that PTK gives you is better. Tial is a $200-$230 unit.

DSM's use internal wastegates built into the turbo - which in no way will work for our cars, your guy must not totally understand what he's talking about or you are not understanding him. Again, the Tial unit PTK gives you will work. Tial's is a $200-$230 unit.

Then you have all the hot parts.

I "fabbed" everything in my kit aside from the hot parts. I decided on all the parts and what I'd need. I have a custom intercooler for my setup (air/water) that isnt the same as the PTK. I wanted to do my thing. The hot parts are the expensive part. They are the most welding/fab you will have on any turbo project. If I could weld decent, I would have made my own. I cannot. The hot parts are where a lot of the labor is for welding and fitment. This is where the cost really comes in.

Then I think you get the pipe to the throttle body.

I wish Jose would step in here and make some comments as he's the one selling these kits for PTK.
