By beat on do you mean occassionally getting on it? I have been around my share of blower cars and yeah a good tune is a must to prevent damage to your engine. When it comes down to it an LT1 is not designed for a blower. When you put a blower on an LT1 you are putting more stress on a motor, thus making it work harder. I know a guy that has had a P600b for 4 years and he hammers the crap out of his car. I do not think his tune is the greatest either. I have also seen people with good tunes grenade their motors within a few months.

I ran a P600B on my '95 for just over 3 years. Stock motor down to the manifolds. Valve covers were pulled one time to replace a valve cover gasket. I street raced that car every other weekend for a year w/ very few problems. I had a good tune in it, got plenty of fuel in the motor and used my head. It finally went the way of the dinosaur when I turned the retard back (it was @ 1.5/# of boost, but I rolled it back to 0.5/#) to race a GSXR600.

So to answer your question, yes, you should be able to run 8# on a stock internal motor, but don't expect it to last forever. I had my 383 sitting in the garage for almost a year before the motor finally popped.

When I said "beating", I meant hot laps, not listening for knock, running the car hard when there are problems that need to be fixed, etc...

Cars are weird, bad things happen. Don't put a blower on your only car if you can't afford a rebuild.

I think that is a good rule to live by .

Most do get destroyed with detonation.
BUT
My friends stock longblock blew while on the dyno.. No detonation at all on 8 PSI intercooled..Tune was conservative and the graph looked good when it went south. Looks like pressure alone can break the lands on the weak stock pistons.

same goes for any thing dealing with modding a car. Great example was no one was expecting your motor to break NA. Main reason why i left my car alone, cant afford to put a new motor in it.
