I ran a P600B on my '95 for just over 3 years. Stock motor down to the manifolds. Valve covers were pulled one time to replace a valve cover gasket. I street raced that car every other weekend for a year w/ very few problems. I had a good tune in it, got plenty of fuel in the motor and used my head. It finally went the way of the dinosaur when I turned the retard back (it was @ 1.5/# of boost, but I rolled it back to 0.5/#) to race a GSXR600.
So to answer your question, yes, you should be able to run 8# on a stock internal motor, but don't expect it to last forever. I had my 383 sitting in the garage for almost a year before the motor finally popped.

BUT
My friends stock longblock blew while on the dyno.. No detonation at all on 8 PSI intercooled..Tune was conservative and the graph looked good when it went south. Looks like pressure alone can break the lands on the weak stock pistons.

I think that is a good rule to live by
