Pics of Turbo LT1/LT4 Engine Longblock

I've been taking advantage of the "For Sale" section over the last few months and picked up a very nice used shortblock and some brand new AFR 195 Eliminator Street Ported Heads. The shortblock is a 355 with wiseco -20 dished forged pistons and an eagle forged rotating assembly and a mystery blower cam. The heads were the summit part number 1031 heads that someone bought and decided not to use. I am still undecided on whether to take this shortblock apart or to just slap the heads and accessorys on and go. I am definitely going to pull the cam and get the part number off the back. Just want to make sure that the cam is properly sized for the heads and will have good street manners.

Ya. Might as well do it right the first time. As it stands now I have a perfectly good stock shortblock. No need to throw a bunch of boost at it and break a ring land and make it worthless. I'm sure once I begin switching the engine out I will want to upgrade the clutch to a street twin. And so on, and so on....

BTW does anyone know how much it would cost to get a machine shop to take my shortblock apart measure everything and put it back together?

The descent into madness begins.

Should be mostly labor to blueprint a shortblock. I'd figure on 3-4 hours at $75/hr probably.

I'm really excited about this corvette turbo buildup. I'm hoping to make 700hp with those new AFR eliminator heads and 15psi of boost. Hopefully I can post some good 1/4 mile times and still have descent street car.

I'm also looking forward to see how much power and what times you can put down with that new F1A setup you bought.

Steve

I found a killer deal on a turbo corvette(from a board member Mn_Vette) and decided that two forced induction cars was 1 too many. The trans am went to a good home. Jason Short (board member) bought it at a very good price. Here is a link with some pics and info.

It is an awesome car! I am still trying to decide what the ultimate build will turn out to be. Either way, it's getting a fully forged shortblock and more boost

I'd just go through it, that way at least you know it is fresh and you won't have to worry about it. Just do new bearings/rings if you really trust the buyer, if not maybe check the balance job on it. Not sure how much a machine shop would charge to do it, I assemble my motors myself.

Ya. I think you are right. I was considering doing it myself. The build quality appears to be very professional however the previous owner said he was running 500hp on a regular basis and took it to 700hp on the dyno. I've had an estimate of $1000 to refresh the motor from a local machine shop. New bearings, Hone the cylinders, New Rings, Plastiguage the clearance on the mains, etc. Any advice from lessoned learned doing your own assembly? Any good literature to read up on?
