P1SC and overheating

Hey gang- here's the deal.
1994 T/a with stock motor, long tubes, and 6psi from a P1SC.

There are no bubbles left in the cooling system, yet when I am in stop and go traffic my temp gauge skyrockets!!

Based on the opinions of my well respected friends- they conclude that I should upgrade the radiator.

I guess the purpose of this post is to just call out and see if I am the only man on this boat, or if others have experienced similar issues.

Thanks!

After I put my SC in I did notice that in stop and go traffic my temps would get hot. I put in a griffin radiator and even in the heat of the high desert of southern Califorina (sometimes 120+) I now have no heating issues.

Radiators seem to go with supercharger installs... to bad they're not part of the kits. Have you had any computer programming? When are your fans set to turn on? What type of thermostat are you using?

With my 160 thermo I have no probs. Sitting in traffic on hot days may jump the temp to about 200 but once I start moving it goes right back to about 170

Im having cooling issues with mine. Mine only seems to get hot on hot days or sittin gin traffic on hot days. My car used to run very cool before the s/c install. I already have my fans set to cominsate for the 160 t-stat. I havent back flushed my motor yet but have bought a electric waterpump and and will be doing that soon. When I put in the new motor in my car, I'll see if the problem still occurs.

Personally I would put in a 160° thermostat, and use LT1 edit to change the temperature at which the fans come on. You shouldn't need an expensive (450.00+) just to run 6 psi of boost. It is all about correct thermo and tuning

If you have a lot of miles on your radiator and condensor (if you are using one), you should pull them both out and powerwash them to get the debris and stuff thats wedged between the fins.
My Temps last year on the highway was like 210-215 degrees on a 95 degree day, with only 4.5 pounds of boost and a stock motor. Over the winter when we did my 383 swap, we pulled out the radaitor and replaced it with newer cleaner on from an M6. (We accidientaly broke the old radiator during the install of the 383) Anyways my newer, but still used, radiator was a lot cleaner in the fins and helped cool my Temps down to about 200 degrees on a 95 degree day. Then I pulled out the condensor in the middle of summer and cleaned it with a power washer and a soapy brush (The condensor was so filthy prior to the cleaning that I could barely see thru the fins) Now, after it has been cleaned, my coolant temps are 180-185 degrees on the Highway on a 95 degree day. Its probably worth cleaning out and checking to see if it helps before you start laying down the cash for a bigger/better one.

Hope that helps,
Claude

You planning on run mid to low 6's in the 1/8?? That would be a good start to running 9's in the quarter next season.

Good LUCK

Whats the problem Jason?

Are you mad because I am on the path to my goals, when you have been stuck with the same timeslip for the last 10 years?

Everytime I turn around you keep making snide remarks about my goal. Is it cause I am gonna do it with 50 less cubes than you? Or is it cause I am gonna need less blower?

Your cars been on jackstands so long, people are starting to think they were standard equipment on third gens!!!

I will run 9's. It's no big deal. I have just a few more parts to buy and I have a very professional list of friends helping me obtain my goal.

Leave me alone and let me enjoy my damn car.

S.
