Overloading After Repair

Posted this in LT1 Advance Tech with no quick replies..... sorry for duplicating.

Thank god for this site!!!!! I am new to LT1's and EFI..... You guy's have helped me out a ton already with other issues!!! THANKS.

Had to replace blown head gasket. Also took the opportunity to replace all 3 seals on timing cover to address leaks, Have zero experience with newer EFI cars, so I marked marked every connection and hose pretty well (I thought) as I disassembled.

The car had a a rich tune to start off with. I was palnning on having it professionally tunned down the road. It has 55# injectors, which I know is a bit steep, but was told it could be tuned to work.

The car idles, but when you drive the car it overloads and dies. When you try to restart, black and little bit of white smoke comes out the tail pipes (oil look fine). Like I said the car was on the rich side before, but it never overloaded and died, or burned your eyes when idling in the garage.

Almost seems as the fuel pressure is too high..... Is it normal to feel a pulse and a clicking sound from the fuel line??

Please help!!

Is it tuned for the 55s now? If not, you need to tune it for them ASAP, otherwise the computer thinks it has stock injectors and is adding fuel according to that. Say if it sees X amount of air, it knows with the volume of fuel the stock injectors flow it needs to leave them open for Y amount of time. With the 55s, which is just about double stock fuel injectors the computer sees X air and leaves the injectors open for Y time, which is double the fuel it needs. The computer also needs to be tuned for fuel pressure for the same reason so it can calculate the volume of fuel passing through the injectors.

Yes, the tune was good prior to the repair, but just a hair on the rich side.

It is overloading and the motor dies... it did not do this before..

Silly question. The sensor in the elbow just before the throttle body (mass air??) is loose. Is there any chance that I spun it around. Can this face the wrong direction??

Its a big sensor the size of the diameter of the elbow? That is the mass air, and yes it has an arrow on it indicating the direction of air flow. If it is the little sensor plugged into the side of the elbow, that is the intake air temp sensor (iat).
