Ordered the 9" housing today - What gears?

Just wondering what everybody would suggest for the gears. I am running a fully forged stroker, and a T-trim, massaged factory heads and a custom comp cam. I have read here that 3.xx gears are best for boosted cars, but I am wondering if that is really the way to go with a 6-speed car. The car is a toy, it sees the street maybe twice a month, otherwise I am setting it up for next season. I will be running street slicks & drag slicks accordingly.

Thanks, Chas

Next season as in the tack? How much power do you plan on and what times do you want to run.

Figure your trap speed and work back to figure out gears based on tires, rev limiter, etc.

What gears did you have before? I am pretty happy with my 3.42s for street duty, but 6th still sucks. I loved 6th with my 4.10s.

The supercharger isn't as big of an issue though. My boost/power is load based. The taller the gear the more I load up the motor. Faster spool and hold the power longer. Turbos love tall gears. Super charger just gear it for how you want it to drive.

Thanks jsetzer, and yes, the track. I have never had it to the track because I had no traction and knew if I got traction I would have no rear. I currently have 3.42's and have no issues with them, but before buying gears for the 9" I just wanted some feedback. I am looking for 500-650 rwhp and am wanting to see 10's. I am running OBD1 and adjusting through my laptop. My limiter is set for 6800.

Thanks, Chas

Looks like I would go with 3.73s unless you are planning for much more power - goot to @ 130, 135.
3.42s will get you to nearly 150mph in 4th.

3.73's have always been a good all around gear for O/D trans. That is actually a great idea. As far as the "planning" I didn't plan to even go this far to begin with!

Thanks, Chas
