Are you sure you need an oil cooler? Just curious.

Well the car will be seeing some serious road course action once its back up and running and the turbo will be rejecting ALOT of head into the oil, I figure since most standard trucks have oil coolers just because they are towing ill probably need one with the addition of the turbo and the extreme wear and tear I plan on putting the car through...

I wasn't sure if you had measured the oil temp or not. I bought a temp gauge but haven't tapped the pan for it yet as the motor is still in the car and running.

I asked the same question some months ago. I would be a little concerned with oil supply to the turbo with the cooler in parallel. You wouldn't want to starve the turbo by passing XX.X% of your feed through the cooler only! You could run in series to the cooler, then to the turbo.

Id rather cool the oil going to the engine first.. someone mentioned I might be able to tap into where the sending unit mounts up top but thats after the oil has already gone through the engine... Im open to ANY ideas on home to make this work and be reliable, the cars going to see ALOT of abuse and I jsut want to do everything I can to make it last.

Tricked-Out-Toy:
Go to a website such as Summitracing.com and at the keyword field type in engine oil cooler ... they have a number of kits ... GM specific too. They usually get access to the oil path with an adapter that installs like a sandwich between the oil filter and the block and include the cooler, lines and fittings too. If you've got a track picked out you might want to talk to people running Camaros and ask them what brand they prefer in terms of effect, ease of installation, quality of parts and resistance to vibrations or other damage.
Good Luck

Bringing this one back to see if anyone had anything to add. I still don't have my pan tapped for the sending unit, but I think when/if I find I need to use an oil cooler, I will run the sandwich adapter that NJ mentioned for the cooler & use the port near the filter to supply the turbo.

Any additional thoughts at all on oil coolers for turbo cars? Typically required on the street? Solutions for plumbing them? Anyone with block fill? Anyone measure their oil temperature?

Thanks,
Scott.
