STS

What is your Freaking attitude problem? Have you just spent too much money on something that doesn't make as much power and you feel ripped?

I don't want to get to involved too much in this pissing contest, But I have seen CJ's car put down 634rwhp with cam, forged piston, LT hookers, cleaned up heads and 12psi p600. stock 350 other than that. I'ld be willing to bet everything he has spent on his car is still less than the STS kit installed.

I'm still waiting to see a 12-14psi run with the STS kit and no meth on pump gas.

I doubt you'll see it without some kind of cooler. The base kit it designed to run 5psi. When raising boost upgrades could include meth. or some other cooler. The methanol is runing great on our test LS1 which we have tuned to about 12 psi now. There is a track video at 8psi while we were tuning on the site.

Luke,
Is it possible to keep subframe connectors on my car with the sts kit? I talked to someone at JLTurbo today but I still have a lot of questions. I would realy like to here from someone that has a sts kit on a head and cam car to see how well it works. One of my other questions is would I need to run methanol injection on a 5psi kit to run on 10.9 compression or could I just upgrade the fuel system which I am going to have to do anyway. My last question is how much horsepower do you think I would put to the wheels with a 5 psi kit if I am already pushing 405 na? Just to let you know I drive this car to almost every day which is why I am scared of trying this kit. Thanks

If your sfc are bolt in then your drivers side could be replaced with the sfc/pipe included with the kit. If welded give us a call and we can get something to work for you. The hardest thing to get past with your head/cam set up is your compression ratio with boost. You can work past this with tuning on the basic kit, but will become more difficult if raising the boost past that. Methanol would be a good choice. Other options could be 6.0 heads etc. if deciding to increase psi.
Depending on tuning 100hp+
Feel free contact by phone or email.

check some new STS numbers

I am deffinitely going to stick with the 5lb kit since I have about 2 grand in my heads. They are stage two hand ported and polished and shaved .030. My subframe connectors are weld in and I hate to take them out of a ttop car. Would I need the methanol injection if I stay with 5lbs of boost. I hope to build the bottom end late next year but I want to keep it safe until then. Thanks

Well with a bottom end build you can definitly take car of that high CR. For now you would have to work around it with tuning. Give us a call about the the SFC.

I hope you're not holding your breath... after all, people need you to make sure their PTK kits get finished first..... then you can hold your breath

I don't know of any kit, intercooled or not that can run 12psi on a stock LT1 on pump gas...most I have seen limit it to 5-6psi just like the STS kit...as an example, check this out:

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...4-97fbody.html

the SQ trim supercharger kit is limited at 6psi, non aftercooled. This kit comes in at $4000 (for the non-polished one). If you want an aftercooler, you can run an additional 2lbs or so, but thats gonna cost you $5300

Compare that to an STS system that you can get with the methanol if you want for around $3500 (or less depending on Luke's discounts) that will have the capability to run 8-9psi...I can think of a lot of places I could put that $2000, but one of them isn't going to be cutting the engine bay apart for a turbo/supercharger to fit.

What other mods are done to the ls1 in that vid?

Here is another example http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...tCar.php?car=7 This person installed a 9 pound ATI unit and gained 347 horsepower on the stock engine. If I'm not mistaken the others such as 97SS4KS dynoed 350 horsepower at 5 pounds. As for your statement that people blow up their engine after throwing on the STS, well maybe it happens, but then again it is said here over and over any FORCED INDUCTION will be prone to this since our engines have high compression and weak pistons, but since your so wise I guess you already know this. Oh ya what is your setup?
9# ATI only put down 347?? On 3# of boost when I first got my kit(stock program/manifolds/ypipe/fmu) I made 372rwhp and 376rwtq. Something is really wrong with that engine or its an auto with a loose converter.

As far as the STS kits. Living out in Vegas for 8 months, 2 guys out there put them on their cars. One with a T60 the other a T67. Both cars ran well. I raced the one with the T60 on my old pullies(making 3-4#) when he had 5# of boost. Even all the way up(note: before my current mod list) to middle of 4th gear from a 70 roll(both cars had stage 3 spec clutches, same tires, rear gears, both T56s).

Just because STS was thinking outside the box doesn't make their kit crap. IMHO, if I didn't have the blower, I'd have one of their kits.

I don't get why every damn STS post ends up being 40 pages... get over it dammit. It's funny because it first when from criticizing the idea, then to the kit, then to the people who buy the kits. All a bunch of BS to me. IMO, if other people buy an STS turbo and it bothers you, then you have problems you gotta work out with yourself.

Anyway here is my 2 cents on the STS kit. Oh by the way, congrats on the numbers! I'm sure you will have lots of fun with the car... On with the commentary. Only thing I don't get is why go turbo and add an external oiling system, a bunch of tubing, and make your exhaust sound like a 4-banger on steroids but even crappier on decel (took that a little too far ehhh haha) just to make 425 rwhp maximum... to me it seems like people getting suckered out of their moola for the cool factor or just the uniqueness. IMO, cool and unique doesn't does not = best choice. Fact remains that you can talk about how you only wanted a little bit of power over stock and nothing too crazy and this and that blah blah blah. But when you do that, you have to start worrying about the stock valvetrain, the stock bottom end, the stock driveline etc. So whats the point of getting a kit that going to do 5-7 psi max, because when you start breaking **** and eventually kill the motor (a lot faster daily driving it), you will end up spending loot on the motor and not being able to take advantage of it. I mean it's the same pretty much for any form of forced induction, however at least with most blower and orthodox turbo kits you can pulley up or push the turbo harder when you want. If your personal choice is to not bump the boost up and stay at the 5-7 psi power level, then whats the point of going forced anyway??? It's not like it's easier than other courses of modding such as N/A or n2o. Heck I've seen mild hotcammed cars making over 350 to the wheels that will behave and drive like stock. The performance shop I work for charges customers 550 for an LT1 cam/vspring swap and if they drop it off early they can have it back the next morning (so the intake manifold can settle). For under 1000 dollars, you can have a hotcam kit in and running and for another 400 or 500 you can get the best dyno tune around. Another example most of us recognize is Atljar - dynoed over 350 with a GM 847. Now all I'm trying to say is you are disrupting reliablilty and longevity of the entire car not just the motor, for power levels that can be achieved quite simply with a cam longtubes and a dyno tune (keeping reliablity and longevity). I mean, with the magnussen ls1 vette blowers maxing out at low boost levels, you wonder what the difference is... It is easy to understand why people want them because the system has a Carb e/o number and I personally met the owner of a C5 that hit 504/505 with a 2.9 pulley on his mag making about 8.5# with alky spraying. The build quality especially on the later models is excellent. The STS doesn't offer impressive numbers for it's boost levels or anything else like a carb certification, or expandability of the kit. Ehh I guess that's just my little thought choo choo train, to each his own...

Aside from that, I saw the kit in person on an 02 T/A at a local shop on a lift. The kit looked merely ok design-wise and quality wise it was less than satisfactory. I'm sure it would be fun and cool to have one of these installed, and for some people that's enough. But for most (myself included), especially on this board, the STS won't cut it in quite a few different aspects... But to those that swear by the STS I have no issues, I recognize that certain people look for certain things and expect certain things from their setup that nobody else can.
