New STS Turbo Install

I have read a lot of negative commits about this system. Some commits were very lengthy and went into very technical details. I could not really determine if I wanted to buy the system or not. Anyway I made the final decision in Feb to purchase and finally got the call from the shop (Woodbridge Dynotune) today that the car was ready to pick up. My car was basically stock except for the SLP headers and loudmouth exhaust. The car also had 80,000 miles on the engine. Some may not like the results from the kit, but my purpose of buying was so that I did not hack my car to pieces on fitting a turbo system in the car and still have something I could drive daily. I did not want anything too radical and if I decided to rebuild the engine I could just take the car down and have it retuned. In this case, I am not going for the mine is bigger than yours concept. Wisdom says that whatever you have or own, someone else has one better. Anyway my before numbers are 270RWHP with 308LB of TQ. The after numbers are 350RWHP with 380LB of TQ. Sure I could have had the car leaned out for more HP. Just wanted to be on the safe side and save the engine until I have the other built. I want to thank both Luke who help with all of my questions and also Rick from STS. Also want to thank John from Woodbridge Dynotune on his recommendations. Hope everyone has a great Spring and Summer. To all my SS brothers PEACE OUT!

Just wondering how much boost you were making on the dyno?

Your reasons for getting the sts set-up is exactly the same way i feel. Its a good set-up even tho you don't see some of the larger numbers that others are pulling. I would love to hear and see a video. Very interested in hearing it with the exhaust set-up you got. I thought the numbers with no tunning was more like 400hp. Could your lower numbers be that of your exhaust set-up or was it due to your safe tuning. Also are you running with methanol injection?

Hey Rob96TA,
I believe the lower numbers was the tunning. The car could have been leaned out more to get more HP, but was not advisable. The numbers are just the stock set-up with no meth. injection.

I think rick stated that the first couple of psi really don't do much but overcome the restriction the turbo is causing, so thats about right for 5psi. Get an alky kit and crank it up to 7-8psi, you'll hit 425rwhp or so

I have the switcheable 5 & 7lb STS system. I, like you, was only interested in something that was easy to install. I really love the new power my car has. But holy cow, that additional 2 lbs is pretty amazing to feel seat of the pants. I'm SO glad Rick talked me into it!

Great to hear its up and running. Tunning right away was a great choice. I am starting to get together an engine component build list to start my lower compression build There will be some videos soon.

one question: what did they have to change to make the system fit with the SLP headers?

The LS1 kit i usually used on LT1s with full length headers. It roughts up the side rather than through the drive shaft tunnel leaving room for headers. With shorties on an LT1 you can modify one of the intake pipes to get it to fit past the first primary.

The guy who did the work for me at Woodbridge Dynotune modified the intake plumming so it would fit pass the header. Luke informed me of this before I got started and after sending him pictures under the hood he confirmed it. I passed the infor along to John at WBD and he made the part.

With only 5# of boost resulted in 350rwhp that is very awsome. The # thru the IC? or non IC?

Luke, would you mind passing that info along to me? magius231@comporium.net if you don't want to post it.

Thanks!
