New Motor

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here for a second. I'm looking at doing a rebuild for my car and put a supercharger on it. I wanted to know if you really needed to put forged parts on absolutly everything!? I really don't know much about this stuff yet, but I do want to learn. I really want a deadly combo. So I hear 355 cid with a charger is excellent. But I am a litte woried about blowing my motor. What would be the safest PSI to run with a rebuilt 355 or 383?? Thanks for the help!

Thumbs up

If you are trying to get away with low dough, then go for a 355 with a stock crank, forged rods ( h beam eagles or the like) and some forged pistons with a good dish. I'm assuming you are keeping your stock heads?
This is a pretty good recipe for a cheap blower motor that will provide lots of cheap" " fun.
Later,

Well, I was thinking about keeping the stock heads but then I have fully ported, 2.00/1.56 valves, 3 angle valve job on my 383 I just finished building. But I ran into a great deal of money and I was wondering how much this combo could give me with a stock bottom, forged rods and pistons (like stew said), blower cam, and stock heads. It's no problem for me to get ported heads...I just wouldn't want something too larger on a blower motor!

Oh yeah one more thing...I also heard that its better to have low compression with a blower. Is this true? How low are we talking about?

You really need some specific goals and a budget. Otherwise, your question is too open ended. For example: you could easily spend $5-6K on a short block, $3K on heads, another couple of $K on a fuel system, then $3-4K on a SC system and still need to spend another $5K on a drivetrain to back it up. Figure close to $20K for a "killer" combo. OTOH, for a lot less money you can take a stock shortblock and install a good set of "blower" pistons, have some mild head work done and get a SC kit. Maybe $5-6K and have a decent performing car. And everything in between.

Thats exactly what I wanted to spend...some where in the area of 5-6 g's, including a Procharger. But what is the highest PSI I would be able to achieve with a rebuilt 355 with stock bottom and forged rods and pistons?
