Improvements to Vortech Aftercooler?
Improvements to Vortech Aftercooler?
Are there any known deficiencies or quirks with Vortech's Aftercooler for the LT1 engines? Any improvements that can be made to it? Is the supplied pump any good? Just wanting to know how to further improve the Aftercooler kit.
Thx,
Greg

Yes, the pump they gave us is not all that great. It took us less than a day to install the aftercooler with the mustang ice tank 3 years ago, but half a day to install the pump properly, in the right orientation, and location to make sure the pump runs right.
Make sure that pump is running, because it is very easy for it to lose priming and not run, then the aftercooler core will sit in hot water. I am still using it after 3 years so it isn’t the worse in the world.
To improve the system, I would highly recommend the mustang ice tank, the one that comes with the mustang SC kit. It is many times bigger than the one that comes with the stock kit so that you can effectively add ice when you need to and give you a bigger volume of water in the whole system. Also it allows you to check if the pump is running just by putting your hand inside the box to make sure the water is flowing well.

If you haven’t already, I would also recommend a hypertech 160 thermostat to have the car running much cooler.

Good luck
