Need some thoughts out turbos and piping

Ok so Im pretty much topped out what I can do with my H/C setup and strongly considering twin remote mounts. now dont laugh to hard... this is my first turbo adventure and with the remote mounts it allows me to get in the game and not mess with anything I currently have (exhaust, headers etc..)

So my first question is, on a dual remote setup what size exhaust piping do you run to the turbo? Ive currently got 3" duals and would desperatly like to keep them. it was hell to fab up and it works very nicely. Do you think I could keep the 3" and just live with the lag? this flows into my second question.

If I keep the 3" exhaust, how bad with the lag be sine there is alot more air required to flow to spool turbos. and what car could I steal the turbo from?
I was thinking the 2.2 dodges would be an easy steal and they are cheap.

also Im doing all the fab work, and Im going for EXTREMELY cheap. I dont want to spend a bunch of money on something thats just an idea.

The engines a stock bottom end LT1 w/H/C, goal is 5psi. at 450+.

first off HOLY **** dude your car is amazing. im a huge 3rd gen guy and thats prolly one of the best setups iv seen. i wouldnt do the twin remote mounts, id just go with a procharger or something, it would fit your setup alot better.

Thanks for the kind words it is and always will be a work in progress. as for a procharger, hell ya I would love to do that but Im trying to keep the costs down and since the cost for the supercharger plus the extras Im going to have to do to the engine I think a smaller turbo would get me to my goals of mid to low 11's and 450+ hp. I dont have/want anything more than that right now or in the forseable 1-2 year. so getting to 5psi with CHEAP junkyard turbo and a stand alone oiling system I think would be the cheapest easiest way to get to those goals.

yea but the rear mount would be difficult for you seeing that you have dual exhaust you will have to find a way to route the charge pipe back up frount. or you could go twin low mount turbos like the APS kits and keep the dual exhaust.

If all you want is 5psi I would just do a single turbo. The single turbo would be so small you wouldn't have to worry about any lag. I would merge the headers into one of the current 3" pipes feeding one turbo. Use the other 3" as a start for hot air back to the engine.

Jeff, thats a great idea! I just didnt think about doing that since I didnt want to tear up the duals but since that will solve the charge piping issue I may take that route. it sure would simplify the process.

now heres another general question. since this is on a stock bottom end, stock compression, pistons etc (only 10-15K since rebuild) would a single front mount be worth the trouble of fabbing up headers for just 5psi? I dont EVER plan on building the LT1, if it blows I will be replacing the broken part or swapping out to an LSx series. So is the rear mount going to accomplish my goals the cheapest while using the 3" piping to and from the tubo?

just for additional info, I would be using the MSII tied to my wideband for my fuel tuning piggybacked on the stock PCM for spark.

For only 450 rwhp and low 11's, I'd stick with a H/C setup.

Headers don't work well with the rear-mount. They lose too much heat.

Dual 3" piping won't work well with a rear-mount. Again, too much heat loss.

A guy on LS1tech saw some pretty good gains by installing stock manifolds, a single 2.5" exhaust to the turbo, and wrapping everything with header-wrap.

You're not going to save any money by going with a turbo over a supercharger.

I dont think I can get to my goals without some serious engine work, IE stroked.... I havent seen very many LT1's make 450hp and still remain streetable. I know there out there but they arent to norm. most of the ones I see are floating aour 420-430. Plus If I have to rebuild this LT1 AGAIN Im just going to put a LSx in there and build that. A home built turbo setup front or rear was my last resort before I throw the LT1 into something like a Austin Healey sprite...

So IF I went with the Log manifold and had a target of 5-7psi would a T67 be a good fit? or is there a turbo off diesel truck I could use?
