Need a good head gasket for 14 lbs

I'm looking for a good head gasket for my 383 that will hold 14 lbs from a P-1SC. I did a search but didnt come up with anything useful that I could see. Thanks

Fel-pro 1074 is about the best thing you can get without going to a copper or cometic.

I just want to make sure that I go through this one more time only. If that means copper so be it. Isn't the 1074 the stock replacement? If so that is what I had on there last time, granted my heads were slightly warped but still I want to do this only once.

If its a street car don't go copper trust me I know! Go with Cometic if you only want to do it once.

The 1074 is a thinner LT4 style gasket. The stock LT1 gasket is thicker & made of weaker material... do not use these. You should be fine with a 1074 & studs.

You will not see 14# from a P1SC either, unless you have stock heads & a small cam. Expect more like 10-11# max.

Avoid copper on a street car - they almost always seep. FelPro 1074 would be fine. The Cometic is an excellent gasket but to work properly the correct preparation of the head and block deck is essential - they must be straight, flat, and very smooth or the gasket will not seal properly.

Is that what you use Rich? Would the gasket I posted above be a bad choice? It doesnt seem to be a copper gasket.

I've used both the Cometic and the FelPro. I have not used the Titan gasket. It sounds good, but of course that is their own description. AFAIK they don't make one for the LT1.

Is the 1074 a stock replacement gasket that is sent with their gasket sets or is it a upgraded gasket? Thanks

FWIW the "stock replacement" LT1 felpro is 9966PT and is $17.97 from advance auto parts.

The 1074 OTOH is listed as "high performance" and will set you back $46.46 from advance auto parts.

The Cometic gasket I have heard wonderful things about when done right, but again - prep is key. If you search you will find that people have leaking problems because of the final surface finish of the head/block surfaces. If done right the Cometic will hold, but if its not right you are in for headaches for a while.

No matter which you do though, good studs will make a huge difference. Some have stuck with bolts and paid the price, despite everything else done properly.
