Monitoring for Knock
Monitoring for Knock
Hey all. I haven't posted in awhile and I'm not positive this is the correct forum for this question so, Moderator, feel free to move it if needed.
I'm wondering how everyone monitors for knock when running forced induction? I know the Turbo Buick guys have audiable knock sensors that beep loudly when they start to get engine knock. I would love to get something like this for my LT1 but I haven't seen it made for LT1's. In fact, I haven't been able to figure out how anyone with an F-body monitors for knock at all..! I know that DataMaster and some other programs will display it but anyone driving and running their car hard to produce knock, isn't going to be looking over into the passangers seat to see if they're getting knock.
So, what does everyone do/suggest for this?
Thanks!
Steve

Re: Monitoring for Knock
A Scanmaster shows the amount of timing retard being pulled due to knock. It does not show actual knock count and it's kind of hard to figure out when it is happening (what rpm) to adjust for it. Thats why the Datamaster program is the way to go as far as logging and tuning.
With a turbo, I could see having some type of audible warning with being able to adjust boost and all, but with a supercharger boost is the same until you change a pulley so you would just tune for it.
