LT1 Edit - Tuning a 383 Stroker with 7.5lbs of boost

Guys,

Not sure what others have experienced but I would really appreciate some insight.

Here is the low down on what I have:

383 Stroker with Vortech Blower - making 7.5lbs of boost
NO Vortech FMU
MSD BTM Boost Retard Box
50lb Injectors
Upgraded fuel lines
58MM Holley Throttle Body
4" Custom Exhaust
Fuel Pressure Regulator

The car is pulling out huge amounts of timing - almost 10 degrees and this translates to lost horsepower. Is it recommend that the Knock Sensors be disconnected and that I rely on my MSD box to adjust timing? Is this adviseable?

My car is running very rich, so much so it discharges fuel out of my tail pipe under WOT. Any ideas on how I can clean up the program and have a better balance rather than going from one extreme to another (Rich vs Lean).

Any ideas guys would be much appreciated.

Thanx,

How much you have the BTM set to? I would recommend to always start at 3. That way you can test test test without fear of detonation...

I may have a tune for a 50lb injectors you can try out... but it will be solely at your risk if you are interested... my car was very well setup and it had around 8psi boost too...

Send me your file and a logged run and I'll take a look at it

Allen has a 383 LT1 with the 50#/hr and dyno tune to 525rwhp with an S-trim. He posted his LT1 files so you can download them there.

I would definitely recommend dyno tuning it to get your A/F ratio right. Then you can decrease your timing and see when you no longer can reduce your knock retard. This will suggest that the final knock retard may be false knock. At this point you can think about bypassing your knock sensor. I probably won't recommend to bypass your knock sensor for daily driving, but on the track with race gas may be a good idea.

good luck

Highlander thanx and Camaro SS thanx also.

I agree I need to get to a dyno where I can slowly pull out timing ever so slowly and see how the car reacts. I agree about NOT disabling the knock sensors as my car is a daily driver.

I think I have a pretty good baseline program for my car now, however I am trying to optimize my tune. I know it is running extremely rich and so that is what I am trying to clean up.

Too much retard in ignition timing will cause you to shoot flames even if you weren't super rich!! I would consider investing in a programmable ecu, may save a motor or 2. (they aren't that expensive nowadays). My 2cents that may not be worth anything to you!

I have a similar car and I'm also a member of TFBM. Agustino tuned my car and it's also a daily driver (almost). The knock sensor is disabled on my car and even though I have the high 6 with retard I'm not using it (set at zero). We tuned the car with 92 octane fuel and after 5000km runs well.
I drove car to Cayuga last friday and ran 11.7 at 124 with a 1.9 60 ft.
