The LS1 kit looks like a pretty good deal. I was looking at the dyno numbers with 5 and 8 psi of boost. Both of the dyno sheets for the 5 and 8 setup seem to be pushing some very nice numbers. The 5psi setup with NO methanol injection was putting just over 415 RWHP and the 8psi setup WITH methanol injection was over 500 RWHP. These numbers seem to be pretty damn impressive. This was also on a 1999 LS1 camaro. For some reason I find anyone who bashes this setup to be ignorant or just not willing to accept the figures.

look i'm off the subject now, if you want to put that garbage in your car be my guest, but when you throw a rod because you want to match the power output of a car with a lot less done to it and you have to run up the boost beyond safe levels, well then don't say i didn't tell you so.....

There is always 1 or 2 that just don't get it. Very happy with this kit. And guess what, my car sounds the way it did before the kit install-HEALTHY. I guess it must be those SLP shorties. Whats really unbelievable is that I could have gotten more horsepower with leaning out the engine a little. I am not trying to sell the solution, but it sure suits my needs.

97ss4ks John at Dynotech dynoed my h/c car the other weekend while your car was still on the lift. I was wondering if you would meet up with me some time on a weekend to let me here your car and maybe take each other for a ride. I have a 00 ta putting 405 to the wheels and am thinking about the sts package sometime this year. I'm glad you are happy with your car, John seemed to like the setup alot. By the way I live in Harrisonburg VA.

Hey 2ktransam,

Sure maybe we can sort of meet up halfway or something. Feel free to send me an email.

I have been putting it on the street, but i am showing #s not trying to brag. Search. I have friends with heads/cam on their lt1 and pull them. Streetable, the car runs smooth as stock until you hit boost. Any car at those power levels are going to be maxing certain parts out, ie fuel. A stock LT1 can only hold so much. I will have my dyno graphs up in a couple weeks, just busy right now. Also will have some LS1 #s that will impress.

The me, them was great.

I think the biggest deal with these STS turbo topics is the fact that you have half of the guys on the STS bandwagon agreeing that its a poor design but it does work "it is what it is." and the other half thinks its the best thing since sliced bread and that nothing can compare with its ease of install, drivability and power to cost ratio. Then all the anti-STS guys relate turbos to BE the best choice of forced induction with its limitless options and boost capabilities(what the STS kit lacks). Ive already chimed in on here more than I planned so Ill just give the rest of my 2cents.

1. It is probably the most inefficient turbo design that I have ever seen. There are many posts about the great power it produces whereas they dont come close to the other turbo kits. However it does seem to make comparable power to a lot of blowers out there so it does work...

2. I believe the 520 or so hp that STS got out of their kit is probably close to the max that that kit will be able to make(regardless of the 'upgrades'), still not too bad since a lot of bottom line blowers do the same.

3. Quit making excuses of why your STS kit doesnt make the magical 500+hp, sound like a bunch of whiny ricers. People relate turbos with high #s, so when your turbo LT1/LS1 is still in the 300-low400 hp range...expect some crap from your peers.

4. Despite what it says on STS FAQ page, STOP with the crap about this kit not needing an intercooler because of the 'intercooling' effects of the long pipe under the car. That is one of the biggest loads of crap that I have seen in a while. It take the air charge all of about 0.01sec to travel through that 2.5-3in pipe negating any chance of cooling it may have. Besides, if that was the case then why do you need to run alc injection for boost levels over 6#s. Even powerdyne and vortec can run 6#s without an intercooler.

5. With all that said the cost of the kit isnt so great anymore.

Basically, the kit is what it is. Just another option for us car enthusiast to add forced induction to our mod list. If you can get 400-500hp out of it then great you have a pretty fast car, just dont buy it planning to upgrade to 600+hp. Would I ever consider buying one? No. But then Id never get a Turbo Tech, paxton, or powerdyne and there are many people happy with them.

Ok, sorry if I upset anyone, I fully apologize for calling the STS system "garbage, crap, and useless".... in fact, I am speaking from a strictly mechanical engineer's point of view with NO actual experience with turbo charged vehicles (although I do consider myself very knowledgable theory wise). It would seem that the kit does in fact produce useable power, and as much as I want to say "a cammed LS1 will destroy it" I'll just keep my big mouth shut because frankly i don't even have an LS1 (yet) much less a big lopey cam, so there....after all, 2ktransam only asked if anyone has tried it, he didn't ask for my big negative opinion anyway so i'll keep it to myself, I don't want to make enemies here and I hope you can all forgive my immaturity and we can all be friends

sincerest apologies,

-Conrad

When are you bringing your STS camaro/firebird to GLD? I'd love to come check it out!

I did'nt read the STS website for the numbers, but if its making 520 rwhp on 8 psi, thats pretty impressive. "A botom line blower " as you put it, like a powerdyne will not put down these kind of numbers. So I don't see your comparison, also your running 12 psi and making that power output, so that tells me its much better than many superchargers out there. Also from whatI've read so far, seems these kits are putting out close to 20 horses per pound of boost, which is what a competitive turbo system will put down. Sure this system may not put down 800 horses, but who cares, how many of us drive everyday with that kind of power. Personally I think anything over 550 starts to get to be a little to much cause of traction issues, unless you can afford to drive on drag radials.

Haha there you go trying to blow smoke up the STS tailpipe without even getting your information straight. The 520hp they got out of they're kit was with 11#s of boost and meth injection, so YES the numbers are very comparible to mine. The only difference is, my car has been running around like that for 5 years with plenty of track time to prove it. Ive only seen a couple of posts talking about this mystical car and now its become the holy grail of the STS community. Why do you think STS hasnt done any more high boost tests on theyre car....because it will fall flat on its face. Oh, and if you can afford to have a 550hp daily driver, then you can afford to drive on drag radials

I think we are starting to get the LS1 kit and the LT1 kit numbers confused.......the LT1 kit takes more boost to make more power because it starts off with lower numbers. The LS1 kit starts off with a higher stock HP/Torque so it takes less boost to make those numbers.

ProTurbo kits will put these to shame anyway.

If needs be, you can get them as a "SuperSaver" without an intercooler and it will run you roughly the same price.

If you were a mechanical engineer you wouldn't be using 6th grade formulas such as the ideal gas law to "prove" how this system would work or not. You need to discuss exergy, conservation of momentum and energy, etc. to actually make a somewhat valid point.
