You will find that some people have had luck with super/turbo charging their stock LT-1's. They are occasionally on this board spouting off their good luck. I was one of those guys for a while. The fact of the matter is...that stock cast pistons in these motors will break when they encounter detonation under increased cylinder pressure conditions. Specifically, the ringlands break. There have been hundreds of discussions on this subject. Save yourself the aggravation, and build the motor first. Just my two cents....

I pulled my stock 30,000 mile motor apart for upgrades and discovered that two of the pistons had broken ringlands; this was on only 6 lbs of boost. The car seemed to run fine before I tore it down. I'm just glad those pistons didn't totally disentigrate.
