lightweight flywheel and clutch needed..recommendations?
I have a 1995 pontiac formula with a p600b ati 8 psi supercharger soon to be a 355.and a 6 speed tranny..Was wondering if..a lightweight flywheel is worth the investment and if so how much are they and who sells them. Also, need advice on a good clutch for this motor....thanks for the help
What clutch are you currently running?? When your time comes to replace your stock clutch I would highly recommend you get a McLeod Street Twin.
The only advantage of going with a lightweigth flywheel is that your car will rev quicker. This is due to less rotating mass. A lighter flywheel is ideal if you do alot of autocrossing.

right now im using a stock clutch.I dont take the car to the track...or really beat on it...on occasion only...a friend just suggested i change the clutch..cause the car is currently in pieces..everythin has to go back together anyways..rk sport makes a flywheel thats 13 lbs vs 30 for the stock unit...would a lighter flywheel help my car get into boost better because it would be turning more freely? i dont know alot about clutches or...how much of a difference a lighter flywheel will give me in additional hp...if any..thanks for the help...

Unless you have a heavy car with low torque (which shouldn't be a problem on a blower car) a light weight clutch setup is always going to be quicker and faster than a heavy one. It might take a little getting used to when lauching and just driving around but after that it will make it a lot more fun to drive.
I know everyone has an opinion about clutches but at least for a LT1 car I would suggest a SLP billet flywheel (about 8lbs lighter than stock) and get a Spec Stage III clutch setup. They can also lighten the pressure plate similar to how SLP did theirs to get rid of some weight and allow for the clutch to cool itself a little better.
Only other things I have seen or might consider would be one of the new Alum. Fidenza flywheels or possibly a RAM clutch but I don't know much about them or how similar they are to the LS1 clutches. Some of the LS1 guys are having good luck with the VDS series from RAM but I don't think they offer that for the LT1 cars.
One other thing I have seen is that McLeod offers a scattersheild now for LT1 cars but there are some modifications that have to be done and you have to change around the clutch setup and get a new clutch fork setup. I do not know all of the details but there is something on McLeod's site, just wish it had some pictures or more details on what all has to be done. If it works the way I think it does then you could use any small block 11" clutch

RK sport makes a lightweight flywheel thats 13 lbs..i guess a stock one weighs 30 lbs or more...in reguards to the clutch...i guess id want somethin that has a stock feel with some more grip....im not gonna take this car to the track every weekend.....im just tryin to make my mind up while the car is torn down..as to the direction to go..i wish someone had dyno numbers before after with a lightweight flywheel etc if i was definitlely gaining hp...with just swapping the flywheel and not giving up durability or quality id go for it...10 hp is 10 hp..anythin to get me into the boost sooner heh.....
You can see the specs/install and my report of the SLP lightweight flywheel/SLP LT4 clutch setup HERE. I would imagine what RK Sport is selling is the SLP unit. It worked well for me, up to ~480rwhp. With your setup, I doubt yours is over 400hp, so it will work quite well.
The stock flywheel is about 20#, and the SLP around 12# (actual numbers are on that page). You won't see any gains on the dyno with the LW Flywheel/clutch setup. Been there, done that.

ws6 actually i think i'll be close to 500 hp.. hopefully....i havent listed all the mods.....im hoping the lightweight setup is good to 500 hp or so....and wondering what sort of performance gains..i'll see..if any..thanks

500rwhp is gonna be a feat on 8psi. I had a friend here in town with a '96 WS6 LT1 with a 9psi procharger (stock otherwise) and it made 375rwhp.
But, if that's the case, I'd be looking at the SPEC Stage 3 Carbon and their flywheel.

i was referring to 500 at the motor...you made a statement of..
With your setup, I doubt yours is over 400hp i assumed you meant at the motor..im hoping for 500 hp at the motor...i think it will be possible but we'll see...till its dynoed its anyones guess but heres a short list of my mods.... asm 1 3/4 headers, ati 8psi with 2 core intercooler relocated to the nose of the car,tb bypass, hard intake tube,1.6 roller rockers. a comp cams...blower cam..dont know specs off the top of my head,52mm tb,24lb bosch injectors, granatelli maf, soon to be 355 ci at stock compression ratio, new timing chain, pushrods, flowmaster cat back, 3.73 gears, heads are stock for now, alumnium driveshaft, msd 6al new plugs wires etc..adj fuel pressure regulator i think thats about thanks for the posts....
