Iat

Hey guys, I have 2 questions about IAT with a supercharger. 1 Does the air temps make much difference with normal daily driving, as far as performance and drivability. 2 what temps are you guys getting? Innercooler or without with 6-8 pounds of boost. Again I am just interested in daily driving, not WOT at the track. Thanks

Before I added the Vortech aftercooler, I would see, on a 80F degree day, 130F on the highway at speed and 160F in bumper to bumper traffic. After adding the aftercooler, I see 95F on the highway and 115 in bumper to bumper traffic. That's with the stock 3.3" SC pulley and a 7" crank pulley on an S Trim. I have a Scanmaster and watch my IATs all the time.

If all you are doing is normal driving, and hardly ever opening it up to WOT, then your IAT's shouldn't make much of any difference (as long as your car is setup properly). And what I mean by setup properly is that there is no detonation during regular driving. If your car is setup right, and you barely beat on the thing, then your IAT's will probably be low anyway.

I usually see about 5-10 degrees temp above the outside air temp in mine, but I usually beat the hell out of mine. I don't think there's hardly a time I didn't drive it with the Blower where it wasn't under WOT at least once.

No offense, but whats the point in having power if you never are going to use it?

I never said that i didn't go WOT sometimes. I was just asking a question. I have considered takeing my innercooler off since I have alcohol inj for the WOT. But since the alcohol is boost referenced then I was curious if higher iat would hurt my daily driving.

A higher IAT just for normal driving won't hurt you. Especially if you have alcohol inj for the boost. Daily drving won't even get you in boost, so you will be fine.

Higher IAT's will make the car less responsive. When fall arrived and temps/IAT's dropped I noticed a big difference in driveabililty.

If you want lower IATs while daily driving I recommend venting the bypass to atmosphere. It will lower your IATs sometimes 40 degrees while sitting in traffic and around town driving.

40 degrees is a big difference. Is your bypass valve alot louder venting to the atomsphere? I am not running as much boost as you are, so I am still useing the bypass that came with the kit. I may have to try that. Thanks

Venting to atmosphere and my mondo bypass in general are loud. Mine was so annoying that I made a silencer out pvc and fiberglass insulation. It is made similar to a glass pack muffler. Now my bypass is completely inaudible. There is a picture on page 2 on my cardomain site. Leave me a good review if you don't mind.

I may try that. I have thought about venting it out before but I didn't want it too loud. Looks like that should work though. Nice ride by the way.
