The thing to watch out for on the ATI's (This was a D1 and p600b) were the bearings - on those two the parts both crossed to low quality Abec 1 units. Also the bearings did *not* have good thrust load ratings. You can cross them at any bearing shop to a speed rated unit, and though a bit pricey are probably a good upgrade.

Finally on the D1 the impeller wasn't even threaded to the shaft (like a decent turbo would be) - instead it was red loctited on - not even hardly a press fit. On the D1 a new shaft was made (billet) that was a better press fit, and it was secured with some loctite filling stuff that was recommended by purvis bearing (about 40 bucks a bottle). So far it hasn't leaked (200 miles) and boost response is good. FWIW this was the first time it made it more than 50 miles without leaking.

Now this is a high hp application - the it is set up for near max boost (saw 20psi), and it does have a manual tensioner (with alot of tension). In a low boost situation 5-8psi, etc. it probably would have been fine.

From what I have heard the newer F series units are supposto have rectified some of these issues.

Do you have the torque specs on the blower?

I can say that ATI finally did it right with the F-series blowers. Do you know where you can get a replacement impeller? I have a P600B with a crashed impeller and I am thinking about rebuilding it myself.

Rich, I can't remember. What were you running and how much power?

Thanks!

Steve: I am using an F1 with a 12-rib belt setup. The dyno numbers are not terribly impressive, I suspect due to the loose converter. With a 200hp nitrous shot it made 876rwhp and with no N2O it made 643rwhp. The 140.4 mph trap speed in a 4,100lb setup impressed me more than the dyno numbers. Without nitrous it ran ~134mph.

Steve: It was in the mid 400's as best as I can remember. I think 440rwhp, though I am not absolutely sure my memory is correct. That was with a stock cam.

That is still really good mph for that HP and weight. What was the 60ft and ET on those runs?

I'm sure it just dynos 'low' because of the converter.

The dyno sheet probably shows HP going straight up then straight across (converter trying to catch up to the motor)

Yeah, it has one of those "straight across" hp curves. The dyno runs on cars with high stall converters seem less in line with track peformance than with a tight converter or (especially) with a manual trany. Still very reproducible and hence valuable for tuning, but I don't think the numbers are nearly as accurate interms of reflecting actual engine output. I have seen a big block with an F1R and a 'glide with a 6,000 stall show less than 600rwhp in a 3,100lb car running very low 9's. Again, still a very useful tuning tool, IMHO.

60' = 1.697 (pitiful)
ET = 10.22

FWIW, I was speaking with Injuneer (Fred) and he stated he loss 12% to the drivetrain when he was running his M6. He had the dynoed both on the engine dyno and chassis dyno. Later he went to a Th400, gear vendor and ~5000 stall and said he loss ~20% so I am pretty sure that your numbers are affected by the stall and trans too.

Thx,
Claude

Rich Out of Curiousity, where you still running an Open Borla when you made that kinda power or did you upgrade to a 4 inch catback or True Duals?

Thx,
Claude
