How much power is too much for the street.

I am pushing about 550 to the wheels with 10psi and find it almost impossibe to put it down to the asphalt. I have all the goodies as far as lower control arms, Sphoon traction bar, 12 bolt rear and using Et Street 26 x 10.5 16s. I find it hard to believe that u guys with 600 and 700 hp are able to use it. I am considering using a 26x 10.5 15r ET Drag or a 28 x 10.5 15r ET Street tire for added traction. I was planning to up the boost by changing supercharger to 15psi with a F1 procharger. BUT WHAT'S THE USE WHEN U CANT USE IT!!!

Re: How much power is too much for the street.

A 4th gen with typical chassis mods, good tires, brakes, etc. works well with up to ~550-600rwhp. More hp won't actually allow you to go any faster on street tires due to traction issues except at high speeds (>100mph). Of course, more power at those speeds is a good thing and you can always pedal it a bit in the lower gears. Still, even with 600rwhp there aren't going to be too many vehicles you can't contend with. So, it's a reasonable goal. Making that much hp reliably and the parts needed to support it is not cheap, BTW. You can't skimp on chassis mods, driveline, brakes, etc. if you really want a well balanced combo with that kind of hp. Look at the cost of the motor/blower and multiply by 2-2.5 to get a rough idea of the costs.

As always, Rich is the genious, and his words are correct. I asked this same question before I put some boost to my car. From what I see, it is the same result that anymore than 600 to the wheels and you won't really be able to use it. Especially for a street car. 600 has been my goal from the start and I would say that the 590 I put down on a hot day on a Mustang dyno is about perfectly power wise where I wanted to be.

First boosted engine made 600rwhp (maxed P1SC) and i cant really say that it was wery streetable widh a highstall converter. New engine (maxed F1)makes alot more hp no doubt aboute that, we had a tight converter behind it last year and it was way easier to use the power compared to the 600rwhp engine. This year we have a "strip" converter and now its like a monster, Its impossible to get the max out of it but its fun as hxxl

So what's a good 15" tire to use with 550-600 to hook up on the street.

Re: How much power is too much for the street.

You will not "hook up" on an unprepped surface and a 600hp car with ANY street tire or even any size race tire you can fit on a 4th gen. If that's your criteria for how much power is too much, we are talking about different things. You need a good set of high performance tires on all 4 and be content with not trying to do WOT hole shots on the street.
