Question How Much Boost (LT1)?

Hey all, thanks for reading. I have a pretty stock LT1 that I want to throw a Procharger on. Engine mods include 594/594 lift cam, 1.6 R/As, CC Beehive valve springs, headers w/cutouts or duals w/x pipe when cutout is closed, and a 160* thermostat. Basically, what I want to know, is how much boost is "safe boost" for my LT1? I don't want to put excessive wear on my engine, or rebuild it so I can run more boost. Thanks to all replies guys/gals.

Not much with as high as the stock compression is. I'd be comfortable running. ~8 lbs or so with the intercooled setup.

I've always been under the impression that the the stock rotating assembly could take about 12lbs of boost and 15lbs pushing the limits, but I'm not a boost guy so I have not done much research on this subject.

Maybe you could just sell me your blower after you get that stroker motor...

12 to 15 lbs of boost is over the limit, I would consider 5 lbs "safe".

If its any hint, most kits for stock rotating assemblies are 6lbs. I wont not run more then 8 intercooled on a stock engine. The high compression from the factory is not meant for boost.

These are not civic engines, 6psi with the proper heads and cam is a LOT of power with an otherwise stock LT1.

It seems like I remember 6-7 lbs was what many of the supercharger kits start you out at, 9 psi might be ok if you had an intercooler, but you better have a tune with it, detonation is not very kind to stock pistons. 7 psi is about a 50% gain in hp.

I wouldn't run any boost then.

No boost is the safe answer.

you would probably be safer with a very safely setup nitrous kit than boost
Boost is a gamble time and time. You could probably run 7psi safely, i would only run 6 though on a stock setup.

I would def consider 150 shot (wet and tuned properly) safer than the 8-9psi a healthy lt1 would need to get to the same territory.

Throw in a cheap progressive controller to numb the initial shock a little bit and the n20 is def easier on it. But the bottle always runs out

I'm pretty close to a "stock" motor. My heads are very mild and my cam is a joke. My saving grace is nearly two full points in compression. Lets say I make 275 NA (no way to test) and so far my experiences with 7-8psi have been BORING. I would rather have my heads/cam or n20 setups again. Now an awesome motor on 8psi might be different, but stockish not so much. Honestly I would say the little t70 is a bore until @ 14psi.
