Question How to inspect used S-Trim before purchasing?

Hey all, I've got a couple of deals pending on S-Trims. I guess I need to know the serial # that would be correct for my car ....would hate to get the wrong head unit or something, you never know the seller may not even know better if selling for someone else. Also, what are the best ways to inspect the blowers for integrity. How much end play is ok and where do I look for impellor contact and what not? I'm getting excited about the possibility of stepping up to a higher psi blower! Looks like my Powerdyne kit may go up for sale after all .....has been a great kit but just won't support my goals anymore with this built motor. Woops .....forgot, they're both V1's

Don't get me wrong, I like my S-trim and am still pushing it pretty hard, now going on it's 4th or 5th year. However, how come you are not getting a T-trim so that you won't have to upgrade ever (unless you want over 750rwhp).

As for the S-trim, I would check the impeller making sure it is not chipped up. Check to see if there is any leak from the seals. Open it up (very easy) and check the bearings and gears, they should look perfect. Then after you bought it, I would replace the front seal and the o-ring since it is cheap and easy to do while it is out. Also, ask if the SC wails (not sure if they would tell you); it sounds like a power steering pump going bad. Whining is good, but wailing may be bad (not normal). My SC is developing a wailing sound ever so often that comes and goes, but the internals look and spin good.

They make the same noise if you don't spin them fast enough. Mine does it at idle around 1k rpm, at 1200 it's near silent again.

Thanks for the info. Not going with a T-Trim because my shortblock would not be able to handle that much anyway. My motor has stock 2-bolt mains with studs, generic forged crank, Scat forged rods, Speed Pro forged pistons .....nothing special but strong enough for the ~500 rwhp I'm looking for from an S-Trim.

For $325 Vortech performs a minor rebuild (full inspection, bearings, seals); might be money well spent to make sure the blow is good for another 50K miles.

One of these blowers supposedly has about 4K miles so maybe it wouldn't be worth it as it could go for a long time as is. The other one has more mileage but still not a whole lot ...like 25K or something. Anyway, for $325 that doesn't sound bad at all if new bearings are included rather than just a bearing inspection (I think that's what you mean).

Here's another question: Is the V2 much more efficient than the V1? How about the V2 non SQ .....it is still significantly quieter than the V1 due to helical gears right? Wondering if I should buy everything but the head unit from one of these V1 kits and then find a V2 unit on e-bay (remember seing a couple). My guess is I'd like the noise level of the non SQ V2 ...as I like some whine but not belt screeching whine.
