How does a boost controller work
I was just wondering how a boost controller raises and lowers boost can someone please explain. Also whats the best turbo kit they have out now for a stock bottom end lt1.

first of all water/alcohol injection is effective, but it washes the oil right the **** off of the cylinder walls and you end up with a worn out @$$ motor very soon!!!
Stay away form it... just trust me on this one!
Boost controllers work by putting psi on the top side of the WG diaphragm...
OK, here goes. Normally without a boost controller you have just a wastegate with a spring that holds the WG closed until psi from the boost overcomes the spring pressure right? OK, well when you put a Boost Controller on, it consists of either a manual or electronic valve... what it does is it adds boost to the top side of the diaphragm by a "vacuum" line from the intake manifold to the top of the WG to increase the psi that holds the WG shut. When not in boost the vacuum line coming from the intake manifold supplies vacuum to the WG which opens it and allows exhaust gas to go out the dump tube.

ok, there is enough mis-information in this thread I couldn't keep my fingers quiet....
wastegates control the boost by letting the exhaust bypass the turbine wheel, to limit the max boost thru the turbo. They have nothing to do with preventing back flow thru the turbo
that would be the blow off valve (BOV), which is referenced to the manifold boost/vacuum.. it has a spring which is set to stay closed at the max boost point. There is a vacuum line to the intake to reference boost/vacuum, so when you shut the throttle it sees a differential and overcomes the spring to vent the boost and prevent back flow against the compressor
most boost controllers just vent boost, so the wastegate sees the same amount of boost, regardless of what is at the intake. Normally installed on the wastegate vacuum line.
Newbies have enough trouble learning without all the added confusion!
And proper use of water/alcohol inj. will not increase the wear on the motor, unless you are just washing the cylinder walls down with it. Like everything else, proper tuning goes a long way!
Kinda like "nitrous blows up motors" palllleeeeeezze!!!!!!!!!!!
