how to adjust tune between low and high boost?

How would you go about this? Is there a box you can buy and hook up to the stock computer to adjust on the fly? Or would would you have to load and reload tunes to switch between a low boost tune and a high boost one?

thanks

If you tune it in speed density with a 2 or 3 bar MAP, you don't have to do anything. The computer will see the change and adjust for it automatically.

If you're like me, you tune it for the high setting and let it run rich at low boost.

I don't think there's any way to "switch" between 2 programs easily.

My tuner was able to tune for both settings using LT1Edit.
However, I had to purchase an aftermarket MAF.
The stock was able to do either one, but not both levels.
He told me that I could also have used the stock MAF and reloaded the settings for each boost level, but that seemed less than ideal.

Welcome to the board!

What type of aftermarket MAF did you use? Does your car still have good drivability?

Also, what type of setup are you running?

Engineermike, could you be a little more specific in the speed density method? I think I must have the wrong idea regarding speed density as I thought one of it's big limiting factors was it's ability to compensate for varying conditions.

would something like a s-afc controller work on our cars?

Speed Density is used by most of the aftermarket efi computers (FAST, DFI, even Megasquirt). It's generally regarded as better since you don't have a MAF to restrict flow and max out.

Some have successfully installed a 2 or 3 bar MAP and ran speed density with the stock ECM. It's more difficult than it sounds though. . .

Maybe, but it won't fix any of the concerns in this thread. Besides, get TunerCAT or LT1edit for less money and way more capability.

Tuning one boost level will not be a problem at all. I was just trying to figure out a way to tune on the fly for fuel when I up the boost.

Ideal goal for this build is a 355 with a single turbo putting down somewhere in the neighborhood of 600-650rwhp.

You could always get an emulator from www.moates.net. I believe it stores the program on your laptop and lets you make changes real-time. I think he even has a wireless version.

hmmm that might be an idea.

Mike on your car how pigish is it on low boost with it tuned for high boost? Is it just pouring black smoke. I ment to ask when I pm'd you a couple weeks back, do you have any pictures of your set up?

Also could I tune for low boost pump gas, then turn it up and run pump and meth. Like I said this isn't going to be a 1200hp race car. Only lookin for 600-650 to the tires on high.

It's not bad, but it depends on how much power each level makes. For instance with my old setup, low boost was 11 psi and 550 rwhp and high was 16 psi and 625 rwhp. If I tuned it for 12/1 A/F ratio at high boost, then it would run 10.5/1 at low boost which isn't too bad. In fact, I think the stock Lightning runs about 10.5/1 when stock.

Don't have any pic's of the setup on the car.

That's actually how I have mine set up now. Low boost is 13 psi and 570 rwhp and high boost is 20 psi and 680 rwhp. It runs 11/1 A/F ratio at low boost. The Meth comes in at 14 psi and the total A/F ratio is 12/1 at high boost. This works extremely well as long as your Methanol works right. I blew up 3 engines before figuring out my Meth pump was bad. . .
