Help me fix my leaky Vortech. Inside please...
Re: Help me fix my leaky Vortech. Inside please...
Not yet Flip. I'm actually installing a second drain today. Never did hear back from Vortech. Great customer service.
I'll have better luck fixing it myself anyway. I'll post my results when i get them. Just trying to figure out where I want to put the second drain hole now and how to run the lines with the least restriction and bends.

I would try running two lines into the big hose into the single hole in your oil pan first. I think its more getting out of the case than your 9/16-5/8 hose.
Re: Help me fix my leaky Vortech. Inside please...
So it would appear that a second drain has fixed my issue. After 50 miles of driving, it's pretty much dry down there. There was just a little dampness behind the pulley, but don't know if that was left over oil around and in the seal or not. I've dried it up and will check tomorrow. I can actually improve on the second drain some since I had to use a nipple with a 45 elbow with a barb fitting on the charger end, and that fed into the pan. Problem with the 45 is since I had to come down so far from the charger to screw it on, it makes the barb point down a bit which doesn't make the barb line up with the barb in the pan, so the flow can be improved by shortening up the nipple and getting the 45 elbow closer to the charger. Hard to explain. So basically, I have 2 seperate drain lines now consisting of about 1/2"id barb fittings with 5/8" line on each. They both run parallel to each other to the front drivers side of the oil pan and the oil pan fittings are right next to each other. So if I knew then what I know now before dropping this engine in with an HV oil pump, i'd have 2 bungs welded in the pan lower then vortech's recommended location but still above the oil level. I pulled the oil feed line to the charger and ran the car for about 20 seconds into an oil pan and I know now that this sucker can flow some oil! I can only imagine what it flows when your in the upper rpm's.

Will do. Let me see if I can get under there with my camera phone and take a good enough pic to post. Don't have a digital camera at the moment.. I'll get something up though for you....

Re: Help me fix my leaky Vortech. Inside please...
Here ya go. Hopefully this works. Pic1 and 2 are the drains out of the charger and pic3 are the drains in the front driver side of the oil pan. It's a weird angle but there both side by side if your looking at the pan straight on from the front of the car. So it's not 100% fixed yet. Seems after sustained higher rpm driving, it's still seeping just a bit. Not even enough to drip, but i can see it a tad wet right behind the pulley. That HV pump is pumping some serious volume in there. I'll probably work on getting that second drain a little better. As you can see in the pic, the 90 elbow points a little downward which is probably inhibiting some flow, but due to the size of that elbow, I couldn't get it any better. With a narrower body elbow and just a hair shorter nipple, I can get it straight. Maybe tomorrow i'll do that. Also wonder if oil weight would affect drainage. Maybe someone else can chime in. Maybe a lighter weight oil would drain better. I'm using 10w40 now for my break in. Maybe 10w30 or synthetic would have different drain properties. But from a single drain to a dual, i'd say i've improved my issue about 95%. Hope the info helps.

It doesn't help that the pics are at weird angles. Sorry. The original drain (one without the 90) is just a hair downward. You are correct about the 2nd one though just due to that 90 I have in there. If I can get a narrower body 90 and a shorter nipple, it will drain straight in if not at a very slight downward angle. But the second drain alone just about eliminated my problem. That was the best I could do with limited space under there. I'd prefer 2 welded in bungs at a lower location, but don't think I can get a welder in there to do it. I still have some improvement to do on that second drain, so with that, i'll see if I can eliminate the problem all together.
