Have a good idea on how to monitor/capture data?
Have a good idea on how to monitor/capture data?
I'm trying to figure out the best way(heck, Any way) to capture every important thing on my car when driving it so I know what to adjust in tuning.
Right now, I have
I would like to find/create a setup that will capture simultaneously ,
I know I can get most of the above from various tools like LT1 edits utilities an others but the ability to capture everything in real time simultaneously would be great.
Do you guys know of such a utility/tool?
Thanks,
Dave
Right now, I have
- a stand alone Wideband that says it has a 5v output for monitoring that device but I'll have to read how to utilize it (PIX).
- Stock PCM with a turbo tune by Bryan Herter
- AEM True Boost controller
I would like to find/create a setup that will capture simultaneously ,
- RPM
- Engine temp
- Manifold vacuum/pressure
- injector pulsewidth
- wide band reading
- exhaust backpressure
- Fuel pressure
- Spark advance
- Throttle position
- Knock retard
- (any other important metrics you guys can suggest for capture?)

Re: Have a good idea on how to monitor/capture data?
Not sure of any tool or anything, but I am buying this http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...701-PB&cat=MON to mount where my heater controls and radio used to be. I am going to hook it up to my junk laptop and mount it under the dash or something. This way I can always have the dashboard view on my fast always up and not have to have a laptop laying in the passenger seat lol. If i remember right tuner cats had a dashboard view also. I think the plx wideband comes with software to datalog a/f, I dont have to worry as my fast already has a wideband
I would love a boost gauge that you could datalog also, but have been unable to find one. Autometer makes a boost gauge that comes with peak memory and a warning, I would love to have it but a 200 bucks it's kinda pricey.
I looked at the 8in version of this screen but I would have to trim more and where the screen cord plugs in looks like it would get in the way of fitting.
I will let ya know how this fits and post pics when it's done. In the long run it will be much cheaper than buying new wideband so I could constanly moniter a/f.

Oh ya I forgot, since I do not want to be without a radio, I plan on getting a cheapo one with an aux input. Then I'll just load all my music onto the laptop...there ya go a touch screen stereo with tons of music!
Good luck finding a program to capture everything you need.

Re: Have a good idea on how to monitor/capture data?
I remember there being a thread long, long ago where a guy bought a laptop off ebay with a non-functional LCD. He then bought a 7" touch screen and mounted the screen where you're talking and put the laptop guts in the center console along with a power inverter and an FM tuner. He could log or program his car whenever/where ever with a blue tooth keyboard and he could even upload music from his house computer to his car via wireless. It was a pretty nifty feat and seemed to work out pretty well.

Here it is. I always liked tunercats when I used to tune my trans am. If I remember right it had a dashboard view. My fast has a dashboard, but it is very small and hard to read unless I use the magnifier. I just use the on-screen keyboard to make adjustments. Hope this helps ya get an idea. The screen can also be mounted on top of the dash where my tach is.

Not having a heater I just cut the back of the glove box out and the laptop tucks nicely into it. If I feel like making a lot of changes I can just pull it out and use it instead of the tiny touch screen.

Re: Have a good idea on how to monitor/capture data?
I had my Electrical Engineer buddy build a logger that logged everything in the stock ECU, plus wideband, plus a signal from a 3 bar MAP sensor. It would log into a hand-held, then you could download the data to Excel and graph it. Unfortunately, that jewel went with the car when I sold it.
Now, we are working on something similar for my boat. In the process, I happened onto this, which some of you may be interested in:
